Not really red, white, or rosé...

I was given a bottle of 1974 vintage Rivesaltes, by a friend. We had a wine dinner for 10 at the house, so I thought this would be a fun occasion to open it.

Rivesaltes is a Vin Doux Naturel that exists in both red and white versions. I didn’t know which this was because the bottle was made of thick dark glass. When I began decanting the wine is was a deep golden color. But then, about a third of the way from the bottom it turned red! I swished it around and served the brick-red - not rosé - wine to my guests who very much enjoyed it.

You could have knocked me over with a Feather when the wine changed color as I poured it!

Sounds like you forgot to shake it before pouring…
