Not Monday Table

Unfortunately due to work commitments I couldn’t make last night’s Monday Table where the boys were looking at 2011 ‘big gun’ red Burgs. Hopefully Anthony will chime in with the line-up and some comments. So as to not miss out completely I busted a 2011 Comte de Vogue Bonnes Mares with Heidi. It was so bright and energetic with a complex nose of freshly grated ginger, crisp blueberries, cherries, pomegranate and violets. It is crunchy and detailed in the mouth with fresh fruit flavours and a hint of some cooler plant matter notes. It is very minerally and the finishes with great cut and then flavours continue to fan out well after the wine is swallowed. It is far too young but impeccably balanced and we enjoyed it immensely.

Cheers
Jeremy

I hope so too, Jeremy–it would be quite interesting to see where some of the high-enders are at this point.

Slainte,

Nice to see that you managed to battle on regardless.

Hold on, you guys down there work? Like jobs you show up to in the morning work?

We sometimes show up late morning Tuesday Glenn.

Spot on. I got to taste this recently and was struck by how beautiful it was. There was great balance of acidity and richness and it had a lot of tension and energy. I would love to be around for it in another 10 and then again in 20 years, particularly for a comparison with the Musigny… [snort.gif]

I prefer the way de Vogue handle BM to Musigny, they don’t seem to push the oak too much with the BM. Of course Musigny normally comes through as the better wine but I often wish it was made with more restraint which is typical of BM as these notes seem to show, or is it the terroir just handles the oak better ?
