Opened and decanted for 1 hour.
Deep Ruby purple on the edge with a licorice rich Blueberry nose, earthy, black cherry, volatile acidity, Oriental spices, tar, tobacco,… very powerful.
This is a big mouth-filling wine red cherries, red berries, silky tannins, nice acidity, minerality, very, very long aftertaste!

p.s. the nailpolisch remover smell is complete gone!

Sorry Harry, but I can’t [shrug.gif] promise you nothing definitive

Dick,

Thanks for the notes.
I have 1 04’ left and 2 05’s.
I had one of the 04’s and thought it quit good, I would not pony up for the current price.
I’m curious about more current vintages, not having followed her in a couple of years has anything changed?
Has production increased?

Thanks

We had a magnificent visit there in March with Esther. Believe me, nothing has changed. I have never met a more passionate, old-school, down to earth farmer/winemaker than Esther (and her husband). Seriously great wines and great people.

Hello Jason,

There are a few small changes:
since the 2008 harvest the production is increased from 3 barrels to about 10 barrels per year, this to purchase a part of the vineyard Mas D’en Cacador on top of this mountain.
Two-thirds of the harvest goes on 2nd year barrels and one third on new barrels.
Ester told me that depending on the harvest there is also a part of the stalks goes in the yeast barrels, so that there is less need of new Wood to be used, in order to give the wine a smoother character, after the final blend, the wine is put in large Barrels to even further to mature slowly.

Ester’s other wine the Planetes the Nin, since 2007, comes from a very different vineyard that by her husband Carles is laid out, and is made from much younger grapes and goes right away on large barrels.

Also for the first time a “white” wine made, called “Selma the Nin”, first vintage 2007, made of Roussanne, Marsanne, Xarel·lo, Chenin Blanc grapes, but this dos not come from the Priorat, and is verry rare only 250 to 300 bottles filled each year !!!

Dick,
Thank you for the information, the Selma looks interesting, I assume you own some?
So her production on the Nit de Nin is up from 75-90cs per year to 250-300cs?
Do you know if she has/is going to make a second wine with any declassified Nit de Nin?
Since you know much about the estate, what is the current going rate in Holland?
Again, thanks for the info.

Hi Jason,

The Selma is indeed a beautiful wine, drank the 2007/8/9.
Have a few bottles of the 2008/9 in my celler.
Wich regard to the production of the Nit the Nin, this is different each year, up to about 3000 bottles.
There is no “second” wine come in as far as I know.

I visit the Priorat every year and buy my bottles Nit de Nin there!!!
The rate in Holland is around 60 EURO for recent vintages, older are a lot more expensive.
Do you have more questions just shoot!

The Carinena, providing the body and frame for Nit de Nin, comes from Mas de Cacador, situated at he very boundary between Porrera and Gratallops.
