Nine Ten in La Jolla, not as good as I expected

My first time at this place. I have to say that prices are reasonable, especially the 3 course menu: $42 and $57 with wine match.

Portions were very generous (my dog will eat about 4/5 of my steak) but the quality is uneven. My heirloom tomato salad was overly generous in tomatoes, but very short on the melted cheese. Rather bland with low acidity, needed some aged balsamic. Mel’s apetizer of scallops was extremely generous with 3-4 scallops and strawberries.

The Flat Iron Steak was good and huge for my tastes, but it was just good.

Mel’s halibut was very good, cooked just right.

Desserts were beautifully presented, yet they lacked anything special.

Wines were less than average, with a decent Rose for the appetizer, an oxidized Cab for the steak and a decent Italian fizzy for the dessert.

In my book this is a 3.25 stars out of 5.

Otto. Melted cheese? I like fresh buffalo mozzarella not melted on my heirloom salad

So in your scoring system quantity of food accounts for 3 stars out of 5? [bow.gif]

Tony, I like it with mozzarella, and I love it with burrata. This one was something that was liquid it would just slide off the tomato. headbang
