Nice wine x2.....

A couple of wines started today in prep for some steaks for the grill.

2006 Nicolas Potel Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets: I got these bottles along with some other Potel wines from '06 and '07 on close-out back in December - a bunch of nice wines! This is the first of the '06 Caillerets I’ve tasted. Opened last night - started quite forward with creamy berry fruit and soft tannins - straight volnay if you ask me. This evening after letting it warm in the glass - loaded with earthy scents, touch of menthol, lighter soft cherry, more minerals. Nice drinking burg - 91pts. I’m liking how some of these '06 reds are pleasing now.

AND–

1989 Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape: Cork is only 1/2 way soaked and pulled out like a 3-5yo wine. Splash decanted with only a small amount of sediment left in the bottle - the aromas of earth, raspberry, and leather jumping from the decanter as it was poured. Dark to the cork with tangy earth, roasted herbs, dark berry compote, and this wonderful black strawberry aroma. This was just decanted and poured about 1/2 hour ago so I’ll reserve judgment on how well the palate is performing as it seems a bit tight. 94pts right now and will hopefully improve in the glass…

CHEERS All - hope everyone has a steak on the grill or something else nice in the oven!
