Lovely luncheon with Kent and Christine Comley yesterday at Fino in the Barossa.
2016 Stargazer Chardonnay: Nice restraint without lacking any flesh or intensity. There’s some smoky mineral reduction and pure orchard fruit aromas and flavours. It had a touch of spice, good shape and excellent cut. A classy wine that should age well.
1967 Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis: Wonderfully expressive, with a nose of fresh cherries, black earth, rose petals and spice. The palate is red fruited and gains sweetness in the glass. It plays in that perfect place between sweet and savoury and is a calm, even wine, that is thoroughly engaging the whole bottle through.
