Nice, FR recommendations

I’ll be in Nice from 7/29-8/5. If you have any recommendations on wine shops, wine bars, wine lists, or restaurants I am all ears. Surrounding areas are fair game too. Thank you very much. If you have any reviews of these places I am curious:

Le Chantecler
Cave de La Tour
Le Cave Bianchi
Isle Saint Honorat to taste the Monks Wines

I’m particularly interested in Le Cave Bianchi reviews. It seems a hornets nest where people love it or hate it and I don’t want to schedule a tasting there that stinks. I don’t like that the website is not clear about matching a price to a specific wine.

Cafe de Turin for shellfish.

Can’t speak to those, but here’s a report back on our recent couple days there: Cruising between Nice and Venice - Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, etc - #7 by bradkaplan

not life changing but i did go to town on a huge platter of shellfish on the terrace there.

i highly recommend jan, 1 michelin star by the port. one of the best meals i had in 2019, the last time i was there. peixes was a nice seafood/small plates bar that we enjoyed in 2019 as well. opt to sit at the bar.

we tend to prefer staying in eze or even menton and drive into nice. mirazur was merely ok and i wouldnt recommend it honestly. for a nice rustic experience, drive up to gorbio for lunch at le beausejour, a nice family run restaurant. le galion on the beach in menton was also great for people watching and seafood on the water.

Jan was on our list but no reservations :(.

Take a day trip to Eze and have lunch at Chèvre d’Or. fabulous.

We’re going to be there the exact same days as you. I made a reservation at Jan a couple months ago. I thought about Le Chantecler bur made a reservation at their other restaurant La Rotonde instead.

Funny coincidence. We ate at La Rotonde. I have a funny story from that visit.

We were there in 2018, week of World Cup. We went there to make a dinner reservation. All days were booked up, but for some reason Friday was no problem. My wife and I turned around to leave and who was right behind us but Joe Walsh of The Eagles! I yelled out “Oh my God, that’s Joe Walsh!” My wife grabbed my hand and immediately said to me “Daniel, leave that old man alone!”. As my wife grabbed my arm and forced us to walk past him, I made us stop. Joe turned around and shook our hands and was really nice and chatted with us for just a minute. Hopefully his meal was worth putting up with us!
