News from Burgundy harvest 2016

Much has been said about record frost in April and how it has affected the Bourgogne harvest this year, but mid September rain proved very important for quality, according to some vintners. My report as published today by Harpers Wine & Spirit gives more detail. I will post some tasting notes and pics soon and report back, from a really cool press lunch to preview the Hospices de Beaune auction next month. We got to visit the records room where we saw the signature of a 20 year old Louis XIV’s signature to the guest book, which included later signatures like that of the UK’s Queen Mother back in 1976 and more recently that of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, wife of former French president Nicolas, back in 2012 when she co hosted the Hospices de Beaune.

Seems like the weakening pound is going to limit price increases for Burgundy.

Carla Bruni > Queen Mother

I think 2015 hangover is going to make this vintage sit on a shelf for a long time.
