News from Bordeaux. 2009 = 1947 (?) (!)

methinks Mr. Cooper hit it on the head: let the prices fall where they may, good wine is better than bad wine.

If more good wine come out around the world and prices drop: good for consumers. If demand (foreign and domestic) increases and prices go up; we’ll either pay the price or discover new producers and regions that meet our tastes.

Every time I hit a price plateau that leads me to seek value in young or humbler wines I seem to have an experience with a well-stored old friend that reminds me of the non-quantifiable value of truly great wines! As I age, I realize I may be buying them for my kids or the guy who marries my eventual widow, but that’s not all bad, either…

Sounds great. I am contemplating a strong position early in 09s, but it really depends on how they price it.

Hey, you guys, you mustn’t put the cart before the horse.

The grapes are not in (most of them, anyway).

Rain is forecast for the next few days.

Let’s see how things turn out .

I’m usually contemplating a strong position on any vintage of any wine, but it really depends if they are giving it away for free or not. In this case I’ll settle for 2002 prices corrected for inflation. Or maybe 1947 prices corrected for inflation, since the vintages are so similar. rolleyes

Any updates?

Did the recent rains help or hurt?

How far along is the harvest?

More predictions?

Chris

Jonathan Malthus says current amount of rain = good on his you tube video. What else would he say… Seeing the vineyards after the rain, it seems no issue.

PREDICTIONS:
I’ll go out on a limb: I predict most of the harvest will be bottled in the 750ml format.
