Well, you could drive to Fox Glacier until 2019, and now it’s helicopter only. The large (ballpark 5mi long and 1mi wide) and very deep (est 240m) Tasman Lake that we were on near Mt. Cook, formed from Tasman Glacier, didn’t even exist until 1990. The changes are dramatic and constant. We saw some similarly dramatic visuals up near Banff last year, too.
Wow. Yes, we drove. That west coast drive is one of the more interesting, isolated, diversely scenic I’ve taken around the world.
