i’ve been meaning to get to pave for a while now
we love jambon beurre when perfect and always look for a local version
i noticed the wine list on line and was surprised to see so much great wine for a bakery/coffee place
(i know the '24 riesling tasting was held here recently but i had to cancel at the last minute)
jin from noreetuh walked up and said hi and it all began to make sense
btw they use bordier on all sandwiches that require butter and they sell a few flavors in their cold case!!!
he said they get it every 2 weeks!
jambon beurre had too much ham on it btw (in france there’s very little on the bread which i love) but obviously that was quickly remedied.
Ooh. Your post just inspired me to order lunch from Pave (and a block of butter) lol. Have you tried the jambon beurre at L’Ami Pierre on 51st by Le Bernardin? Pretty classic.
Really excited for Kelang NYC the new restaurant from the Hainan Chicken House team. It just opened. Of course your intrepid reporter will be there Friday post a quick Art Basel trip and pre-Erykah Badu show!
i work near pave so tend to only go for a pastry after lunch at mala project across the street. i wouldnt say its destination worthy but clearly a great option when youre in the area.
I think Pave makes one of the better jambon beurre in the city. The baguette is pretty good and they use french salted butter, which is great but the prices are pretty high. If you’re in the area the it’s worth the detour but I wouldn’t travel just to go there.
$8.50 is expensive for a sandwich with those quality ingredients in midtown Manhattan? I just got back from Paris and paid much more than that for a Jambon Beurre sandwich. Plus Jin does so much for the wine community I would definitely go out of my way to visit him.
I didn’t know about Pave…it’s an 8 minute walk from my office. Will have to try it.
I’ll echo others…I often get lunch at the local bodega that’s on my block. With a bottle of seltzer or water, the salad or hot bar stuff that I get is right around $20. And this is for shitty food. I’d be thrilled with paying $10+ a drink.
