What other restaurants are around Chambers?
Off the top of my head, Frenchette, One White Street, and Au Cheval are all within 15 minutes walk from Chambers.
Crown Shy, Terroir, Farra/Atera and a few othersā¦
Nothing within 3 blocks if thatās what youāre thinking. A wine bar called Freddyās just opened a couple doors up. I was at launch, but havenāt been since open.
Thanks, Iām reserving Noortwyck, Chambers, and leaning towards Frenchette.
Also Forgione. And you probably donāt want Odeon if youāre in a hyper foodie mode, but if you were in the mood to relive the past.
Kind of surprised to hear Forgione is still going. Not that it was bad, just that thatās been a long run for a place that I donāt hear much about these days.
+1 for Atera, one of my fav restaurants in the city
Had a quick dinner with my wife and daughter at Stretch Pizza after work. The pizza is flat out great! I had heard good things, but I was thrilled that it not only lived up to the reputation, but greatly exceeded it. We had a pepperoni pizza and shared the delicious potato chip salad and the meatballs. Bonus was that Chef Wylie was in the house and we chatted for a while. He was charming and a bit surprised when we told him about our adventures at WD-50.
I just looked at the 4 Charles menu. Is this their menu in 2029? Even by NYC standards, itās $$$$.

I went to a private dinner there a few weeks ago, and didnāt pay. It was spectacular. Its hard to be wowed these days. The food was great, but the service, ambience was just level up. It wasnāt 3 star michelin or whatever. Just a special place that gets it right.
What I know some folks do is order for pickup. I remember laughing about $25 burgers in NY 8 years ago. $50 may just be the new $25 burger .
Went to 53 and ate at the bar. What beautiful, cozy space for winter! Food is great (Lux PF Changs). An expense account kind of place. $75 corkage.
Great description. I went for a business lunch and enjoyed it. It is huge. Was surprised at how big the wine list was.
Ah only seeing now there is a downstairs! Thought it was just upstairs⦠oops
Strikes me as a better place for dinner than lunch for the nighttime vibe
Thereās a place in my suburb that seems to want to be 4 Charles. Menu prices are nearly the same despite being in a boring building that used to be a Vetās office in the burbs. Sorry but Iām not paying $90 for filet mignon in the same room where Fluffy the Poodle got put down!
Glad to see this got some praise.
I went there last weekend - wonderful pintxos and excellent service. Waitstaff brought over a few extra plates just because they thought we should try them.
Really loved the Gildas - so simple and delicious.
Totally agree. Completely inappropriate reflection of terroir. Fluffy only made it into the local food truckās kebabs.
Had lunch at Via Carota the other day. A friend had a reservation and so we went. I didnāt realize the amount of hype the restaurant has or how difficult it is to secure a reservation. It was very good and I definitely enjoyed myself. Itās a wonderful room and the service was great. If I had a chance to return I would happily do so. Would I kill myself for a reservation? Not a chance. There is far too much good Italian food in NYC to have to deal with that nonsense.
Also nonsense? The corkage is $100.
Iām thinking of going to either Pasquale Jones or Charlie Bird next week. Two questions:
Is one more conducive to conversation/less loud than the other?
Which has a more reasonably priced wine list?
Thanks.
4 Charles is one of those places were people of certain type go because it is so exclusive. It is only 10 tables. 40-50% are held for standing regulars reservations similar to Raos. It is what it is. I will say the food is very good and hospitality off the charts for such an exclusive spot. I look forward to going back.
