Jealous. I missed my calendar reminder and had no chance at Four Horsemen. My wife doesn’t want to venture out to Brooklyn and wait in line, so I don’t think we’ll try to snag a bar seat. If we were in town for longer or came more often, I’d definitely try to swing it. We were also thinking Le Bernardin for lunch and are not good at making reservations . Lots of options, still, but the analysis paralysis is real.
Nice! Do they allow BYO?
i messaged them a few weeks ago and they said theyd allow it if we share. since the place is cramped and they do turn over tables, id say skip bringing a bottle (and i pay corkage nearly everywhere i go).
David Toutain doing a night at the Modern July 21. Still a 4 top left for 8:45.
Your intrepid reporter is out on the scene doing the work for you. I would say run don’t walk to Lei’s wine bar. The food is inventive and very good. Small wine bar type portions. Enough to have a meal but not a true dinner type place. The vibe is excellent. The wine list is deep with a number of fairly priced bottles. My guess is they will have a hard time keeping the list up at the current level as the place was packed with wine geeks pillaging the list. Loved every thing about it!
Nice btg list, I think @Barry_L_i_p_t_o_n would dig it.
Looks great!
Seems like they open at 5:00?
Yes we had a 5 resy. I think we left after 9:00!
I have a friend visiting from Singapore / Tokyo coming to NYC for a conference. Do you have any suggestions for steak, Italian, or Mexican in Manhattan? He’s been to many of the classics and was looking for newish spots to hit. Probably both dining solo and with colleagues.
The only one I could come up with off the top of my head is Quique Crudo. Any help would be appreciated.
Depending on neighborhood preferences, what about Corima? https://www.corimanyc.com/
Thanks. Looks delicious!
For Mexican I would check out Cosme. For steak I do not do Steakhouses. Foul Witch has an amazing steak on the menu at the moment it is a 60-Day Dry-Aged Rib Steak.
Oxomoco in Greenpoint is fantastic.
quique is too small and too hard to get in for my likes, although i love the food
i’m a big fan of the bar at cosme. the service is always on point, altho sometimes i find the menu limiting ie at brunch
Thanks! All great adds:
Corima
Cosme
Oxomoco (Greenpoint)
Foul Witch
Can’t wait for your report. I worked that day, but it would’ve been worth the trip from Virginia!
It was a lot of fun. In retrospect it was probably not a great idea to put a wine list together with so many bottles that they only had 1-3 bottles of for the first time I have ever worked as a sommelier! We were running of bottles fast. I would say close to 10 top NYC somms came and lots of other friends came so I was very busy! We sold through a lot of the wine. Not surprisingly we sold a lot of riesling!
I have 3 7pm curtains next month - even the show on Friday is 7pm. Makes dining tough.
One day, we’ll shoot for a 4pm at Via Carota. The other two I’m looking for fast food in Times Square area. All will be with my vegetarian wife (who prefers lunch and sits out dinner).
Is Urban Hawker Mall have good options? We loved the Hawker Mall’s in Singapore (eater mentions Hainan Jones).
Anyone go to Taam Tov in the diamond district? I fallafel plate is right up my wife’s alley, and it’s close to the theater.
Is service at Aldo Sohm wine bar quick enough that we could be in and out in 75 minutes?
Any other really quick places between Carnegie Hall and 42nd street?
I think you could do a 5:00 resy at Naro in Rockefeller Center and as long as you don’t want to have a big meal you could be out in 60-75 minutes. They usually have good BTG options.
You could also do Frenchette, they have a 3-5 mid day menu and start dinner at 5:00:
I personally prefer the food at Naro but Frenchette could work well for this situation.
That looks great! Perfect for me, perfect for my vegetarian wife, and perfect location.
I think you would like Naro.
Also I just realized I said Frenchette but I was actually thinking of Le Rock their sister restaurant in Rock Center that is open all day.
