New York City Restaurants

On my list to try–have been a fan of Benno’s for years.

Other suggestions: Koloman, Hortus, Cho Dang Gol.

love benno the person and the chef. it looks pretty good, maybe great. the wine list unfortunately is mildly depressing in its pricing.

Great suggestions. Thanks for the quick response. I should be able to get a few reservations in when their windows open.

I did go to 425 about a month ago and it was delicious although nothing was super inspiring. I do agree about the prior comment regarding the wine list, I did manage to get a delicious bottle by Pierre Guillemot Le Corton which was spot on. It really seems like it was trying to attract the finance guys on Park Ave.

maybe just the finance guys in the building!

Anyone care to take a crack at the best Indian at the moment?

I don’t go to enough Indian restaurants to name the best. Semma is definitely up there.

This looks awesome!

I liked Chola, but haven’t been since the end of the Pandemic.

Semma was fantastic. We were there two weeks ago. Still think about the lobster coconut curry and the gunpowder dosa.

Has anyone been to Okatte Tanto on 49th? It looks like a tiny hidden underground sushi spot with practically zero information online other than a handful of reviews on google and Yelp. It looks super interesting and isn’t far from my office so wanted to ask here since I’m sure someone has heard of it.

For sure Semma.

Haven’t tried Kanyakumari by the same group.

For home delivery Moti Mahal (authentic North Indian food). I say home delivery because I am not a fan of the vibe.

I also do like Baar Baar.

Up thread I posted on how to get reservations at places. I set up RESY alerts at 6 sold out places to understand how they work on those Tier 2 restaurants. And I noticed Kanyakumari freed up full availability a few days in advance of targeted date, and the bots cancelled a lot of their reservations as well. Said another way – a fairly easy reservation to get using RESY alerts.

Semma only opens up reservations 2 weeks in advance. I will probably make a standby reservation elsewhere just in case I get shut out. Place looks tiny

Dhamaka from the same group is also worth a try (Semma better but Dhamaka can be easier to get into). Haven’t been since they changed the menu

maybe a minority opinion, but semma is worth the effort but dhamaka is def not.

I haven’t been to Semma, so can’t comment, but I also don’t feel any need to go back to Dhamaka. It was fine, but I didn’t get the love for it.

I was there 18 months ago, very good.

Haven’t been to Semma either, felt the same on Dhamaka.

I stopped by 425 to check out the bar area and the wine list is very weird. There are lots of wines around $100 which was very surprising and then the wine list jumps with lots over $1000. Not much in the middle. The bar menu looked ok but I did not end up staying because there were no seats available.
