Not every notify for me. Wonder if this will hold true post review.
Will be in the city Sunday thru Wednesday. Any dinner recommendations for Sunday and Tuesday?
Greatly enjoyed Chambers and Atoboy last year at Robert’s recommendation. If nothing new may hit Chambers again Tuesday. Spots with good white burgundy and/or champagne go to the top of the list.
Staying at The Conrad but happy to take a car wherever.
63 Clinton, maybe? Their champagne list is pretty extensive.
Do they only offer a tasting menu at dinner?
I probably should’ve mentioned I’m in that category that’s grown weary of tasting menus.
Yep.
If you’re looking for more of a wine bar-y experience, maybe claud as a walk-in or the bar room at the modern? If you’re weary of the tasting menu format, but appreciate Atoboy, the same restaurant group opened a restaurant at Rockefeller Center called Naro that (I believe) does a la carte at the bar.
Hit the new the new Gem Wine Bar last night and it is absolutely outstanding. It has moved into the larger space that used to be the main restaurant. The menu is a combination of the type of food that was served at the wine bar and restaurant. We had a tomato dish, an incredible bean dish, a mind-blowing lions mane mushroom schnitzel and a roast duck for two. The Schnitzel was easily one of the best things i have eaten in awhile. The wine list is much longer and is mostly natural but also has some German wines and some Burgundies that would be please anyone who does not like natural wines.
It was absolutely packed and I would note very loud and boisterous. It is a very young crowd.
We will be regulars here as we were at Gem and Gem Wine Bar - Chef Flynn told us on the last night of Gem we had eaten there more than anyone else.
Momofuku The Bar at Ko - The casual, experimental space on the side of Ko is excellent. The wine list is great and fairly priced - it is on line.
Gem Wine Bar - See above.
The Four Horsemen - Go early and get a seat at the Bar.
Fox Face Natural - Put in a notify request on Resy. Not sure if you are only 1 but those are usually easy. They just got reviewed and got three stars in the NY Times which is a big deal for a casual spot.
Foul Witch - New spot from the Robertas / Blanca team.
The Grill - Excellent wine list that is also online. 375 Park Ave.
Edit - just saw this is for Sunday and Tuesday. I know some of these are open on those days not sure about all of them.
Signed up for Dorsia. Most of the restaurants I can get in to without help. The minimum spends are very reasonable with wine. Carbone is $500 but I don’t need help there. Glad to have it as a resource even though I don’t think I will use it much outside of work dinners.
Looking forward to hearing any reports. I also saw this link in the article:
With a three star NY Times review Foxface does not need more press but DAMN was our meal good last night. The large fluke and potato dish is just incredible. It was so good we are going back tonight!
Looking for a place before a show in Williamsburg/Greenpoint later this fall. (I’m a big advanced planner.) Would be interested in casual, chill spot–pizza would work well but I’m up for whatever. I know Ops isn’t in the neighborhood but is that the place to be for pizza?
Leo is owned by the ops folks. Food is fine…not life changing but they do take reservations.
Straddling greenpoint and Williamsburg, I like chez ma tante and le crocodile if a bistro appeals to you.
I’ve never had food there but Achilles heel is Andrew tarlows greenpoint restaurant/bar.
Not as chill but I was super impressed with Oxomoco recently. Outstanding food and the drinks are nice as well.
Hi Paul- would you recommend Da Michelle for a casual business dinner ?
Hey Fred, yes for casual but if it is a larger group, I would worry about the noise level and conversations. The acoustics aren’t great.
Fulgrances is excellent all around. It might be more than you are looking to spend, its a casual environment, but I would not describe the food as casual.
Who are you going to see?
Thanks! Probably a smidge high-end for the night, but good to know. Seeing the great Hold Steady at the Brooklyn Bowl. Night four of four.
Le Crocodile mentioned above is across the street.
Roberta’s on Grand is about 10 minutes.
I would probably do Rule of Thirds which is three minutes away. Reasonably priced and not to hard to reserve.
