New Small Production Napa producer Worth Getting in on - MOWE Napa Valley

@D_Mowe done. And we are looking forward to making it to see you. Perhaps WinePAWlooza in June? I will reach out offline if we get up there.

Yes - We will be at Wineapawlooza. Definitely reach out if you guys make it up.

Bought the first release and just tasted with Dustin this week and the wines are insane! The 22 Cabernet is special stuff and the 23 Sav Blanc is easily the best domestic SB I’ve ever tasted. Can’t recommend these enough as the wines are almost as good as the people producing them. In a time where I’m dropping most Napa wines these are ones that I will buy moving forward without thought. Truly the most exciting project I’ve seen in a very long time. Can’t thank Dustin and Renee enough for the incredible experience and I’m telling everyone I know about these wines!

@D_Mowe will you be pouring at PNV this week?

There is an event at Studio 1299 A (Monica Stevens studio) in Saint Helena wed from 4-6 and we will be there. Outside of that, we are only spectating & tasting :sunglasses: :wine_glass:

@D_Mowe opened your Cab for OTBN and tasting it as it evolves all night. Just a beautiful wine, great job. Wonderful structure and balanced, dark cherry, cigar box, pepper. Yum! Can’t wait to get the 2023 and see the 2022 age longer

I think I can give Dustin a 11/10 for his patience with me in this last week as we tried to find a quick 20 mins to taste his 2022 Cabernet and 2023 Sauvignon Blanc. During the week I did try 2022 from VHR, Schrader, Tor, Spottswoode and others, and I can honestly say that his 2022 Cabernet had this extra level of sophistication and easily made it on par with the other wines tasted. I am biased towards Spottswoode, but this was more enjoyable that Schraders for sure. We spoke of his SB and that vs Dana which for Dustin he has mentioned on many occasions he feel is the benchmark. I have been lucky to taste Dana SB a few times, and even though this is a good wine I felt always was a little heavy on the mid-palate and the shoulders a bit too broad, however I don’t know how he does it but Dustin’s SB is electric, just pure electric. Outside of Realm and I have a soft spot for Spottswoode, I don’t know another SB which is this good from California. If you are not on the mailing list you need to get on it now in preparation for the 2023 release. Anyway cheers Dustin and thank you for letting me stop by!

Thanks James. Stoked to read this! The 23’s are stunning so I’m ultra excited to get them bottled (whites in a couple weeks and reds in June).

Spent the last week tasting countless 23’s at the PNV event here in Napa and really confirmed in my mind that indeed the 23 vintage is special. So much freshness, elegance & class across the board (even with producers that in previous vintages might have been a little too big & rich for my liking).

Was a pleasure!! Wish we could have spent more time!

The DANA SB is definately more broad shouldered but has that electric acidity as well.

We love acid as people who bought our 22 see but the 23 vintage gave that electric acidity but with a bit more volume and texture. So glad you loved it.

Looking forward to your next visit!

With all of the hype, I wanted to dive in myself. And yea, this is bringing some heat!!

2022 MOWE Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena (3/4/2025)
So………….here I am drinking a super hot California Cab. And you know what……it’s pretty damned good! I’m always one who wants to make my own conclusions and while there is a loud chorus of praise, I feel like I’m coming at this from a slightly different perspective as someone who’s way more into high acid and especially Spanish+Italian wines. Guess what, this is still friggin good! I decanted this in the morning to drink in the evening but the nose was begging too much for me to ignore it all afternoon. There is a ton of depth, poise, and just pure deliciousness to the tones of dark red cherries, black currant jam, raspberries, licorice, dark chocolate, some pencil lead, kirsch liqueur, spice notes, and a lovely touch of violets to bring in a floral aspect. The Full bodied feel has some heft, but also deftness that is plush and attractive with medium acidity and deceptively silky, medium+ tannins. You can’t fake a good feel. That is what truly separates winemakers and this feel is seamless. Yea, this is damned good and it didn’t last long once I started drinking it. I have little clue as to how it will age, but what I do know is that this is a finely made Napa Cab and I’m here for it! (95 pts.)

Just met with Renee and Dustin yesterday - really nice experience!

As great as the wine is, their story is just as good, as has been related here previously.

Still early days here, so don’t miss out on being part of this phase.

I do think the longer maceration is a key to the high quality of the CS.

Really high level of attention to detail here, see for yourself! Highly recommended!

I had the great privilege to taste with Dustin and Renee yesterday in their beautiful home. I took the plunge in the fall based on the recommendations of the board and happily was not disappointed. Both wines are very high level!

A lot of the tasting notes upthread are on point. The Cab covered the full spectrum from red to blue to black fruits, had some nice florality, lift and savory elements that should bode really well for positive evolution in the future. The SB was definitely high acid which I love but also had wonderful texture to go with it. Very excited to see where both of these wines go over time. Was also very lucky that I got to taste both the 2022 and 2023 vintages. I made the ā€œmistakeā€ of not grabbing any of the SB in the fall… I won’t make that mistake again!

Lastly, not only am I a fan of the wines, but after this visit am now an even bigger fan of the people behind them. Dustin and Renee were very gracious and generous hosts and I am super grateful to have been able to meet them in person. Looking forward to the next time!

Agree sometimes it is not just the wine but the people behind the wine that are important with MOWE you have both.

We are so deeply humbled and thrilled by the feedback from those who have included us in their visits to the valley. With so many choices, your support and encouragement gives us such gratitude. Each time we hear about someone enjoying the wines we’ve poured our hearts and souls into, we can’t help but feel like giddy kids.

We’re super excited to bottle our 2023 white TOMORROW (and reds in June).

Cheers!! :wine_glass:

What kind of decant time are you finding best with the 2022 cab at this point, Dustin?

Hi Andrew, I think the cab is really showing its stuff with a double decant the morning of an anticipated evening drinking along with a decant 30 min to an hour before ready to enjoy. This is how I like to show the wine. We have played with a few different things and this has always been our favorite.

I don’t have much to add to all the praise above. I’m mainly chiming in to say the 2022 cab was stunningly good tonight, especially given the vintage. I was impressed by the elegance, balance, and integration it showed at such an early stage. I’m looking forward to seeing what some more time in the cellar will do, and am curious about the 2023. Hopefully, the profile won’t be too different from the 2022, as it was right up my alley. Bravo, Dustin.

After I created this thread - I need another $250+ Napa Cab like a hole in the head - - - I'm out - someone who shall remain nameless wanted to show me what I was missing and brought a bottle of MOWE to this dinner - https://www.wineberserkers.com/t/nyc-3-8-25-the-not-the-la-paulee-gala-were-on-you-snooze-you-lose/ . I have not changed my mind about my lack of need for more wine, BUT the MOWE was excellent.

@Andrew_Demaree thanks for the note and glad to hear it showed well! Did you follow the decant I suggested? Was it still a little tight on first taste and continue to open up or was it ready to go?

@J_a_y_H_a_c_k glad to know you enjoyed it since I wasn’t sure when I read your notes on wines from the dinner. Having read over the years countless reviews of yours, its great to hear this.
Just want to mention since you reference $250+ Napa Cab - MOWE release price was $175 and we intend to hold that price for the first three (22-24) vintages at the very least.
