New Eurocave - a slanted door and other things

Hello all, new here and new to wine collection too. Recently decided I’d like to cellar some wines for consumption mostly 10-20+ years later and so I purchased a Eurocave V-059V3 (compact) with a glass door. It’s an under-counter unit which I’ve gotten due to limited space and for the versatility when I move. I noticed a few things after delivery and wanted to tap into the experience of the community here.

One thing which I immediately noticed is that the door is significantly/obviously tilted such that the side with the hinge is flush with the top of the fridge, and the other side is 3.5mm (just measured it roughly) lower than the top of the fridge. Very obvious in person, and I can’t help but think it would look terrible if I really did one day fit the unit under the counter (at the moment, it’s just wedged beneath some storage shelves). The door would never be parallel to the counter top…

Local Eurocave distributor suggests this is normal and sent me photos of a couple more units they have exhibiting the same tilt. I also seem to see a tilt in Eurocave brochure photos… not sure if I’m imagining things. Is everyone’s Eurocave doors slanted, or is this something which really should/could be rectified? I’m not aware of any leakage from the door seals as a result so far, but I am a bit of a perfectionist and I do get worked up when things do not line up when they should.

Another small gripe is that the temperature and humidity display flickers ever so slightly (i.e. at a very fast pace) when viewed straight on at eye level. Eurocave distributor tells me it is normal to flicker if viewed from slightly above, but should not flicker if viewed at eye level (they are open to swapping out that display). I’d prefer not to start replacing parts so quickly if it’s actually common/normal.

Temperature fluctuates more than expected but I’m learning it to be apparently normal. Based on the Switchbot thermo-hygrometers I’ve placed, inside the fridge has around 2C oscillation every 20-30 minutes (set at 12C, fluctuates 10.6-12.6C), with relative humidity oscillating from 41% to 85% in sync with temperature fluctuations (i.e. every 20-30 minutes). Ambient room temperature and humidity varies around 26-28C and 45-60% depending on time of day in a room without windows nor exterior-facing walls.

Fridge was delivered and installed by Eurocave less than 7 days ago; manufactured in May 2025. Warranty period offered locally is 1 year.

A 2 degree C temp swing is very good. You don’t want the unit cycling with every half degree swing in temp. The temp of the liquid inside the bottles wont budge with those swings. I have my thermostat set to turn the cooler on when the temp increases 4 degrees F (2.2 deg C).

Once the unit is full, I would expect the thermal mass of the liquid in the bottles to reduce the cycling frequency significantly from the 2-3 times per hour you’re currently experiencing.

I can’t speak to whether the squareness of the door is normal. Sounds like it is based on what you’ve said about photos and what the distributor told you. What I see in your picture wouldn’t bother me as long as the seal worked, but I may have a less critical eye.

Thanks. It is currently around 1/3 to 1/2 full. Does yours allow you to set an acceptable temperature range? I wasn’t aware of that feature even after reading the manual on mine. Seems like this one is fully automatic…

Squareness does annoy me quite a lot. I don’t see any reason why it needs to be designed slanted, so it feels like poor engineering to me - which is not what I would expect from a benchmark brand. I’ll try and visit the Eurocave showroom in the next few days to get a bit more first hand experience with these units. Hopefully they’ll have some built-in units to show how a slanted door will not be noticeable even when placed underneath a countertop. In the meantime, I’m open to any other thoughts on that door!

I should have been clearer: I have a CellarPro cooling unit. The controls may differ from the Eurocave. On my cooler, you can choose how many degrees above the set point the cooling unit will turn on. It will then turn off when the target temperature is reached and stay off until the threshold above the set point is reached again.

I offered my experience only as reassurance that a 2 deg C rise in air temperature before the cooling unit turns on is normal and will have no adverse effect on wine stored for decades.

I highlight air temp as a caution against using a bottle probe in liquid to trigger the thermostat. The liquid temp changes more slowly than the air temp. A 2 deg C rise in wine temp is greater than the fluctuations the wine sees when air temp triggers the thermostat.

My only other thought on the door is to bring a photo to the showroom. If theirs are square, you have an open and shut case. (apologies)
