I live in TN so while disappointed that won’t be barrel tasting opportunities, I have purchased a gift card that can be exchanged for future wines. Cam’s previous model supplied good wines for a very fair (in some cases, ridiculously low) price. My logic was that I am just pre-buying 5-6 cases of good wine with some early notice compared to to the general audience.
For me, I have no interest in the barrel tastings, unless it’s held in beautiful Morro Bay, CA?
The value to me is (hopefully?) some priority access to the wonderful new offerings.
Either way, I fully expect to deplete my gift card before too long. 2023 CS!!!
I went downstairs and found a 2011 and a 2012. Popped the 2012 and it’s fabulous!
Also found 2016 and 2017 Super Tuscans. Anybody wanna comment on those?
Were the Super Tuscans dN or CH?
I signed up from Atlanta without the expectation of participating in the Roxy barrel sampling. I value the benefit of early notice and exclusive access to stuff.
Now, maybe one day, theoretically and hypothetically, I’ll schedule a work trip to CA around one of these tastings, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there….
None of us signed up to ride the boat.
No commentary to share on the Super Tuscans of yore, other than to express my hope and support for a similar diversity of offerings with these new beginnings!
Matt,
I love boats! Sailboats in particular.
Barrel tasting is a busman’s driving vacation for me. Unless it’s in beautiful Morro Bay!
Triple Very sorry, but, I don’t love (many large cities) San Francisco, anymore.
I Morro Bay, Population ~10,589:
CH! Old-School.
Nice!! Appreciate the update on the 12!!
Did you feel like there was still upside to holding longer? That was my plan but could potentially be convinced to open one sooner than later

The best to happen there will be the scheduled take down of those 3 hideous energy chimneys “scheduled” for 2027
Population will change

Still tasted good and fresh to me. Can’t imagine an upside, but there’s no hurry.
Y’all are the worst influences. Finally caved and bought in. Hoping he’s able to score some port and sparkling wine again. The rose sparkling and 2004 port were amazing.

Lot 873, 2017 CH Super Tuscan
Lot 898, 2016 (Black Label) CH Super Tuscan 1/'23 Cellartracker rating of 88
I’d bet these wines were bottled after the Cameron Hughes Cameron Hughes. (Cam would not sell us an 88 point Black Label Super Tuscan.)
Scott, no pictures of the sea otters?
Yes, waaaaay after me. So, I looked at buying the company back from VWE just before the BK and I tasted through 90% of the inventory. Granted, it had been fairly well picked over by then (and there were some gems in there), but most of the remaining inventory was garbage…smoke tainted 2020’s, recently bottled 2018 RRV pinot noir (this was Spring of 24) and lots of production issue affected wines (poor bottling hygiene).
My first job was a cellar rat down at Corbett Canyon in SLO. Loved Morro Bay…loved the whole area. You are a lucky man…this was 1994. I hope for your sake not much has changed…I know the county was pretty much against any kind of growth back then.
Yes! My first job after college was less than 1 mile east of Corbett. You probably worked under the excellent very fine man, John Clark, he was the winemaker then. If I recall correctly?
About 10 years previously, 1979-1985, I was the winemaker very nearby at Chamisal Vineyard. The winery was so small that I was my own Cellar Rat, and about everything else. I felt like a fancy(?) dishwasher.
The area is still nice, just don’t tell anyone. Morro Bay has grown to almost 11,000 people. 282,000 total in San Luis Obispo county. My son is a land developer/builder here. You can fight city hall?
I’m so Looking forward to your new offerings, feeling like a kid on the day before Christmas

Scott, no pictures of the sea otters?
Yep, Plenty of Sea Otters relaxing with their babies, every day:
John Clark was awesome. Great guy to work for. Did you know Cappy (mechanic) or Greg (fanatical bird hunter with the crazy vischla)? Greg, unfortunately, bore the brunt of my incompetence in the cellar.
