My family will be in SB for two nights; they need restaurant recommendations. One night should be a casual-ish place, and the other a nicer restaurant to celebrate a birthday. Wine-friendly is good, but they aren’t wine geeks. My niece, who is 12, will be with them.

Bruce, bouchon can fit all of those needs as it is casual, but also can do “dress-up” particularly if your party is big enough for a private room they have adjacent to the restaurant. Don’t know for sure, but probably a party of 8 or more would make sense in that room. I made a couple of other comments in your companion thread on WT.
