I would do a couple of nights in naples and the rest either in Sorrento or Positano.
Plenty of sightseeing to do in Naples ,definitely recommend hiring a local tour guide, tour underground Naples and the unbelievable treasure of San Gennaro. T
In Naples I would eat at Mimi alla ferrovia and for izza you can go to COncettina ai tre santi, 50 kalo’ or Flli Salvo.
Don Alfonso just closed for renovations and should reopen in a couple of years
Thanks all very much for the thoughtful replies. I can’t wait to start planning everything and you guys have been so helpful.
Some of my favorite parts were hiking. The Valle dei Mulini to the Valle delle Ferriere loop was awesome. Tre Calli Mountain was amazing. The Path of the Gods is worth it even if it suffers a bit from the tragedy of the commons. Marisa Cuomo winery was a favorite but make sure to make reservations before you go.
Ian gave a lot of good advice but IMHO this is most important for Americans visiting Italy. Italy isn’t Disney World. The Amalfi Coast is one of the most romantic places in the world. Take time to enjoy that aspect.
@Barry_L_i_p_t_o_n - any rec’s for places to stay on Capri or Anacapri ? We’ll be 3 couples next June and looking to do 2-3 nights to finish up our trip.
We stayed here. Nice hotel, view, and good service.
Hi Fred
Ask me in October, haven’t went yet .
Here’s where I’ll be
[capri town apartments] (https://www.capritown.com)
Good idea to stay there, never got to Anacapri. Stayed at Hotel Punta Tragara in Late September/early October. Stayed in two level suite with a view of Punta Tragara, quite reasonable (because the season ended right after our stay). Aperitivo in the square after the tourists leave. Like most beach towns the food isn’t necessary the best, hope you like seafood. Where will you be in Italy beforehand?
Edit: I think Barry’s suggestion is probably good.
Thanks for the suggestions
Tom- this trip will be pretty much all Amalfi. 2 nights in Rome on the front end then 3 nights at Hotel Don Alfonso 1890 near Sorrento and 4 nights at a villa in Priano. Our group is considering adding a few nights on Capri if we can find a spot that doesn’t break the bank.
We also have a trip coming up. We’re going to day one of the Ryder cup in Rome then finishing the weekend there before heading to Pienza, Florence and Modena.
Try one of the beach restaurants at Marina Grande area in Sorrento. Wife and I were there early this year and enjoyed the freshest seafoods at Trattoria da Emilia. Marina Grande is the quaint, traditional fishing neighborhood in Sorrento.
Thanks Ramon, looks like Marina Grande is about 20 minutes from Hotel Don Alfonso. We’re doing Lo Scoglio one night along with Don Alfonso so your suggestion could work well for our other night.
We’re planning a trip to Rome, Naples and the island of Ischia. Lots of good info but I didn’t see anything about Ischia. Anyone stayed there?
Hi Barry and others- we have 3 nights in Capri and looking for dinner recomendations. We’re doing Da Gelsomina in Anacapri one night. Our villa looks to be a short walk to the main part of town. We’ll probably do a lunch at Torre Saracena as well.
Pesheria La Botteghe- super casual counter service attached to a fish monger. Limited choices but Excellent.
Ristorante Il Genario - high end, fabulous, romantic. Book early and request a table with a view.
Il Verginenlo-very good food, crowded, service rushed for tourists (lots of locals go). Request a view table, it will make up for the service.
Buonocore Gelateria - always a line, even better than the gelato in Florence. I went 3 times in 4 days.
Da Gelsomina was very good but I was disappointed in the rabbit. Very little meat on a a few boney pieces. But I’d definitely go back, pasta was great, the fish looked great, caprese salad great. Take time to stroll Anacaori, very different. Take the funicular for mind blowing views.
Lo Sfizio- a bit of a hike but great food. I got fish and salad but they also had great looking pizza in the Neapolitan style ( I prefer Roman style, crisp crust in center)
My B&B host was impressed with my lineup.
Awesome !! Thank you @Barry_L_i_p_t_o_n
This place was ok for the price. Better for fsmilies, as it’s really to bedrooms and a tiny kitchen with sparse furniture. Great location but better for families- we’d prefer a real sitting room.
Great view off the patio.
