Need a good Chardonnay recommendation for around $30

Let me chime in for Jura. I had a Rolet Côtes du Jura La dent de Charnet Chardonnay 2015 that was really outstanding a few days ago, and the 14 was also really, really good. You cannot go wrong with 2014 Chablis either from the few I’ve tasted.

What is the store(s) that you plan to shop at? Maybe we could look and make a better recommendation?

Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay would be well worth checking out. Long considered one of NZs greatest Chardonnays and sells for a song in the US.

I think the fact that he can’t get shipping is a part of this, so it comes down to what he can get in-state.

Binny’s should have some stuff I’d think. They’ll have Chablis, they’ll have Jura, they may have some Oregon Chard, and they’ll ship in state. That is really the only suggestion that I can make in IL.

Looking at Binny’s selection, they have the Droin '14 AOC Chablis for $24. That is a really, really nice wine for the $$ IMO. '14 Fevre Champs Royeaux at $21 isn’t the best price, but that’ll certainly be a decent wine, even if I prefer the Droin. '14 Servin Pargues at $21, VV at $24 should both be good and Vaillons at $27 looks like good value for a 1er. '14 Louis Michel Forets at $30. Drouin '14 Vaudon at $19 for a bit lower price point should be decent, and I know that the '14 Brocard St. Claire at $18 is a nice entry level Chablis. It has a screw top and is an ideal summer sipper.

For Jura options I see the Bourdy cotes de Jura 2010, which should be good at $25, and a producer I’m not familiar with, Rijckaert, whose Arbois '11 or '12 is available for '$19. I’d imagine that is well worth a try at that price point.

In any case, the '14 Chablis are moving through, and the fatter, less classically styled '15s are now coming through. I’d back up the truck on the Droin. That isn’t the best price I’ve seen but it isn’t bad and it’s a very good wine. I’d also try that Arbois.

Really appreciate everyone chiming in. I’ve created a note file on my iPhone to remind me to locate these wines. Hopefully can find some locally to taste before purchasing in quantity.

Thanks, everyone.

montagny 1ers.

Although I haven’t had since the '09 vintage, the Argyle Nuthouse Chard always seemed to deliver the goods for me. And I see that it is available right now from Lueken’s Liquors (out of FL) for under $20, a great price, AND they still deliver to IL.

That was what came to mind to me just from the title of the thread.

Without a doubt. Everytime I have a bottle of the Kumeu River Chard I am surprised at how Meursault-like it is - Not as heavy as the oak bombs out of California, and they do have a long shelf life. I have a couple bottles left of the 2012, and it’s just gorgeous -

+10 on Kumeu!!

+1 on both Oregon and, especially 2014 1er Cru Chablis , not sure what’s available where you are. Agree hard to go wrong with 2014.

For a slightly off beat suggestion try Sudtirol, Alto Adige e.g. Nals Margreid Baron Salvatore. On US pricing you should have a bit of change. Of course a lot of good Ontario options but likely hard to find where you are.

this

Ramey Sonoma or Russian River always worked for me.
