If it’s a good single malt, never use ice or water. A water back is fine.
I prefer the Single Barrel for $10 more.
For a cocktail, it’s scotch & soda (Randy’s w/water) for a Single Malt, Cardu with 1 or 2 small ice cubes.

Lagavulin is a nice one when you are inthe mood for peat and re-peat. I found a wonderful one in Canada a few years ago. I had never heard of it before, but it had teh perfect balance, and even my wife liked it as much I did. Like a doofus, I forgot the name of it when I got back home, and I have never run across it since.

Why not just chill the bottle instead of diluting the whisky?
PS: I am a big fan of ice too, I often remind servers in restaurants “You know, the first word in ‘Ice Tea’ is ‘ICE’…”

not much of a single malt guy but i do love my irish whiskey. i don’t care for the peet so the irish style is much better suited to me. black bush is delicious, with a cube or a splash of h2o…
How can any of you who put water in your whisky dis anyone who puts ice in their whisky?
I like my single malt neat.
Macallan and Coke is awesome.
Scotch is not really a summer drink for me except perhaps one night with a cigar on the patio, and I would have a cube in it.
Otherwise, I pour neat, sip for a while, and then add water.
