Napa proper - Lunch recommendations

Hog Island at Oxbow for sure- get the clam chowder with grilled cheese, add a glass of sparkling and sit outside… Agh, that’s where I’d like to be at this very moment…

I like the Mexican place at Oxbow a lot.

Not sure if they have reopened for lunch, but Oenotri is awesome. Never had a bad meal there.

FWIW, I have given up on Celadon. Never had a good meal there.

We’ll be going to Celadon. Not an option to go somewhere else. We went years ago and my wife and niece loved it. I’ll report back.

Celadon changed hands a few years ago - not quite the same.

That explains a lot. I’ve been the last two times I was there, and neither meal was memorable (and the wine list was shockingly commercial too).

Another vote for Torc if staying downtown. Bounty Hunter has good BBQ and great wine selection. But also love driving to Mustards (great wood fired pork), Oakville deli (excellent sandos and pizza) or if you like Hillstone restaurants, R&D Kitchen always kills it in my opinion (and it’s right in stags leap area).

Celadon was our neighborhood restaurant when we lived at our Riverfront loft. They were one of the top 5 restaurants at one time, but so many others have opened since. Our go-to is Bistro Don Giovanni - consistently great.

Oenotri is open for lunch Friday through Sunday!

Crazy good list.

One of the nice things about Gott’s: $5 corkage :sunglasses:

The food is so so, but the views off the rooftop bar at the Archer Hotel are pretty cool (reverse happy hour Sun-Thurs). As mentioned above, the food at Zu Zu for tapas/Spanish is very good and Tarla is always solid. An often overlooked small Italian place is Il Posto Trattoria (very north end of town but closer than Don Giovani’s). A killer breakfast/brunch spot is the Southside Cafe…I would send you to the Golden Bagel, but my sister sold her business recently.

I have posted this link before regarding corkage in Napa Valley - this was last updated in March.

We were in Napa in April and had lunch at the Napa Valley Bistro. The town of Napa has improved a lot over the past few years as a viable place to stay.

We had a terrific dinner at Los Agaves, at the Riverfront, in September. I see they also do lunch. Definitely recommended if you like authentic Mexican food and are up for a margarita (or two) as a break from wine.

We’re staying at the Archer, went to the roof twice last night. It wasn’t too crowded.
It’s going to be different tonight, already setting up the line to get in.

No advantage for being a guest of the hotel? We’ve done that rooftop a few times, but usually off season, mid-week lol

I think so but not crazy about a mob scene

Yeah, saturday night up there is probably a zoo.

+1 on don Giovanni for lunch

Okay, for dinner we went to Celadon, Compline, and Angèle.

BYOB champagne to Celadon and a red, good so far. The appetizers were good, burrata dish and carpaccio. We both had a pasta special, duck confit with pappardelle. Too much sauce and the pasta wasn’t correct, too thick and under cooked. Lovely space.
Compline, we ate outside. I had the trout crudo and it was good. We both had a decent bavette steak.
Angèle is another place with a nice indoor space that is mostly open air, like Celadon. Oysters were good, my wife wasn’t crazy about the escargot with a green sauce. The duck was so so. My sweetbreads were good, but not quite crispy enough. Did drink a nice red Burgundy.
These were all within walking distance. We should have gone to Oenotri and some other places. Missed out on the the oyster bar at Ox Bow. We did make it to Fatted Calf for a BLT.
