At the risk of thread drift, I see William & Mary mentioned often. Can someone give a quick summary of their wine style?

The William of William & Mary is Will Segui who’s also the GM of Rivers Marie. I don’t have as much experience with them as others here might, but I’ve purchased a number of vintages and many of their different bottlings. I’m still trying to decide if I’m a buyer this year.
I’ll generalize so apologies to Will if he feels it’s inaccurate. I’ve enjoyed the bottles so far. In general I think Will shoots for a less-ripe style that still show-cases the CA fruit profile. I’ve found them pretty tight in the early years, sometimes bordering on austere (Proprietary Blend and Shifflet Ranch) on release. I say this because they open up after a few years. Not uber-ripe, high alcohol cult wines by any measure.
Will’s non-estate Cabernets have been more giving and ready earlier, IMO. The 2021 Calistoga (?) I had last fall after a healthy decant was one of the better Cabs I drank last year.

Mine has widdled down tremendously for Napa/Sonoma:
- Kinsman Eades (Anjea, Kaanos, Kodo) - may drop Kodo
- VHR
- Scarecrow (let others buy vintages I don’t want)
- Greer if Budget allows
- Aperture (whites and a few of the SV’s)
Otherwise, I’ve been spending more of my budget on foreign wines from France, Spain, and Italy and for a while Australia.

Keep seeing the Kinsman Eades name pop up. Haven’t heard about it previously.
Is it really that darn good to justify $300+?
Ask yourself how many Bordeaux bottles you can buy of a good 2nd or 3rd growth compared to one $300 bottle and you will have your answer.

Yeah, this may be the most expensive wine I’ve ever purchased and I just got their entry 3 pack once. I intend to drink one and if my socks aren’t blown off my feet where I’m standing while wearing shoes, I’ll be putting the remaining 2 up for consignment.
I opened 21 Hierothesian for a blind tasting group this year—blew everyone’s socks off.

Smith Madrone ($65) and Matthiasson ($85) are both near the top in my book for Napa. In Sonoma, Calluna makes a great cab for $75
