Napa 2022?

Have any critics published a report for Napa 2022?

Haven’t seen anything substantial yet. We’ve had some great posts by @Roy_Piper about 2022 however.

Jeb Dunnuck has 202 2022 Napa wines reviewed.

I already have a lot of wine from back vintages, so I will probably not purchase any of the 22’s, I’m waiting for the supposedly incredible 23 vintage myself……

Some reviews are out, but most Napa 2022’s will be reviewed in the next couple of weeks. Napa Valley Vintners coordinates the tastings for its members, and samples are due to them on 9/4.

Hi Andrew - I’m tasting the bottled Napa 2022s from this week, but I published this 2022 Preliminary Napa Valley Vintage Report last December (free to read). You may also be interested in reading about Dominus opting out of 2022 releases (also free): https://thewineindependent.com/articles/dominus-estate-2021-and-2022/
The quality of the wines will come down to terroir, variety, and choices. Quantities are likely to be small, which isn’t a bad thing. When I was tasting his barrel samples, Ketan Mody (Jasud) told me, “2022 makes you better at what you do.”

Awesome. I’m starting to get 2022 offers and have no idea what to do.

I would humbly suggest trying the 2022s of Pezzato Winery. Miniscule production (35 cases each of their Napa Cabernet and their I Nonni (reserve) Cabernet).
I was a non-believer in the vintage until I tasted them in May with Michael Savaiano. He introduced Russell Bevan to the Sugarloaf Vineyard.
At $70 for the Napa and $140 for I Nonni, It’s worth a try. Cheers!

Vintage of the Century . . .

I am a believer in Pezzato wines. Michael is a gifted winemaker and the price for the Napa Cabernet qualifies as a bargain. Tasted the 2022 from barrell and it is terrific.

I bought some of the Pezzato NV - JD rated the barrel sample 92-94, I’m sure it will be great, and a great value.

That low? :upside_down_face:

Very helpful. Thanks for the concise summary of the vintage. It will aid my buying decisions

just visited napa and tasted some 2022s vs 2021s. 2021s are a lot better, too much heat and alcoholic in the 2022 wines generally, in good wineries that is not the case as much but still not as good as 2021s.

Curious - where did you taste?

carter, momento mori, etc

The only two Napa wineries I buy regularly are William & Mary and Di Costanzo and so naturally I am looking forward to seeing how their wines turned out as I have ordered both. The one review I saw of Di Costanzo was positive, so there is some hope there.

I wouldnt expect them to release a sub par wine regardless of vintage.

While I agree the real question is how much better IS 2021 and how much better will 2023 be.
