My summer project: Wood burning pizza!

As if I have so much time on my hands. the deck is half stained, the concrete anchors holding up my deck needs reinforcing, but yet this will get priority:

I want to get a large chimenea and make it a wood burning stove. I found the perfect chimenea in the UK, but the manufacturer does not want to ship it. I am still looking.
I will doe something like these shown. I will make the deck a bit higher than the wood surface and use the Williams Sonoma stone, cut to fit. A door would be nice too.
Thoughts?

I am wanting to do the exact same thing!

John

These guys have plans for building a wood-fired oven like the one above:

Mike, I want one too. We have a lot of bricks left over from a big landscaping project, and Steve has looked into building an outdoor oven for me. I think he has a bunch of information about it, so I’ll ask him to pass it on. It looks like a lot of work, and unfortunately, the OR climate doesn’t really reward that level of effort at outdoor cooking.

I have a friend in Long Beach CA who built a really cool one on his own-- no kit, no plans, nothing. It’s very cool, and since they’re in So Cal, they use it constantly. I’m going to ask him to send me the pics so I can post them here.

(On a semi-related note, I didn’t get around to making your grandma pizza last weekend, but it’s going to happen soon!)

Wow, thats like 2 times the size of my home!
I wanted something a wee bit less BIG!

In the little ‘community’ where we live there are about 80 or so houses. One of the houses around the block put in one of these pizza ovens last summer and ever since then, their neighbor has been throwing a shit fit over how the “smoke is killing his children”.

Hopefully you have good neighbors.

I think my more ‘ambitious’ days are behind me. The problem I may have is my neighbor Mikey Eyes may want to use it more than I… [big_boss.gif]

What a timely post. We’re in the process of doing some work on our home and one of the last things on the list is to put in a wood burning pizza oven.

Maybe this is a better size for Bag End, Hobbiton?

Though if you went with the larger one, you could always rent out the bottom part to grad students from Columbia or NYU…

This thread reminded m that Barnett Vineyards on Spring Mountain has an awesome wood-fired pizza oven on top of a hill near the winery. The views from the deck are stunning. Oh and the wine is pretty tasty to boot! Fortunately I was able to grab some pix from their website since our pictures did not include the pizza oven.

Here’s the view:

Hey, that’s the view from my deck too…on Staten Island! [gen_fro.gif]

more like this, no?

If you were to do something like that yourself from scratch, what are the requirements as far as fire brick, special mortar, etc.?

Man, Jersey looks better from your side than from mine!

This thread makes me motivated.

I can get you a chimenea here in ABQ. They are everywhere. Give me size requirements or just come out and visit. Shipping to NY, easy from NM.

I will send a PM. thanks

This is the UK model that won’t ship:

Give David Klose a call. He does all sorts of custom BBQ fabrication. Maybe he can work something out for you.

Mike, having cooked pizza on my Weber (admittedly not nearly as good as wood fired), I figured there had to be something in the states like what you are looking for. I would have thought this would have been an easier web search but I did find one that looks pretty cool although not cheap. Check out this one - Casita grill Chiminea Oven from The Blue Rooster Company.

Dave, thats perfect. Thanks.
