We had my sister and her family in for Rosh Hashanah and had a few bottles over two nights (they are not big drinkers)
One of my nieces (age 21) likes German wines so I opened a 2007 Selbach Graacher Domprobst Spatlese. I like the balance and exuberence of the 2007 vintage and thought that this was an excellent example. Really pretty wine.
My wife and I visited Bandol this summer and so I wanted to show her a mature version. I opened a 1998 Tempier. The wine was quite impressive. Nice richness, but with a good bit of restraint and balance. Enough spiciness to go with brisket.
2001 J.N. Gagnard Chassagne Montrachet Maltroie – really beautiful wine. Not at all premoxed. Possibly my favorite wine over the two nights.
1999 Truchot CM Sentiers – I could attribute opening this wine to the fact that my daughter likes Truchot (she does), but everyone would just laugh. Upon opening, it was sort of monolithic and not very focused. But soon the really expressive spicy cherry nose came out and then the wine settled down on the palate and became longer and more focused. A really excellent wine.
