2009 Bourgogne “Pressoniere” (Roty) - 13% alcohol
In normal years this wine can be a bit chunky, tannic and “Four Square”.
It requires several years aging to round out.
I figured in a ripe vintage like 2009, this might really hit a sweet spot.
I was right…
Deep crimson red.
Highly perfumed nose of pine sap and Maraschino Cherries.
Lovely, firm, spicy, minerally, mocha red fruits with a long, ripely tannic, Clove aftertaste.
Excellent acid rounds off what I consider one of the finest young Bourgognes in my experience!
This wine could be classified as a Gevrey Villages wine but Roty chooses not to do so.
At $16.99 per Premier Cru my absolute QPR o’ da year!!
Picked up two more cases at a little more $ to assure fine drinking over the next several years.
This is the only wine that I have ever bought more than one case of.
My highest Testy Troll Recommendation…
[9 out of 10 Trolls]
Good call, Paul - I really liked this wine in 2005 too. Amazingly, PC sometimes blows this wine out at under $10 so keep your eyes peeled! When I’m buying again I will look for this or the 2010.
Sort of off topic, but I’ve had a couple bottles of the Roty 09 Marsannay which I thought terrific. Delicious and, for me, a good intro to Burgundy since I drink mostly CA pinot.
This is about half the price so ill keep an eye out in warmer years.
I don’t recall tasting the 2008 version.
Da Hound scores the 2008, 85 pts.
He scores the 2009, 87 pts.
From his description, the 2008 appears to ba a wine needing many years to round out (typical of Roty non “Ripe” vintages)
I would stick with the 2009, when and where you can find it for a good price (<$28).
You won’t be disappointed!
