My new lobster roll wine

By coincidence, had a Maryland crabcake tonight and we had two bottles of Chardonnay from California open. The more austere one, despite in a vacuum being inferior, paired better with crabcake.

Claw and knuckle meat is the best. Tails are good, but not as sweet.

Jersey Shore here … we get picked lobster meat by the pound off the docks. Anyone want to challenge chablis, bring it…

I mean bring it here and we will make some f;cking lobster rolls!

I’ve purchase very happily from both the Lobsterguy.com and Mainelobsternow.com. IIRC the latter includes shipping in the price while the former is a little less pricy but you pay a shipping charge. If ordering smaller quantities it may be optimal to purchase from the latter but if ordering large quantities the former is less expensive.

Charles, where you at on the Shore? I’ll be in Point Pleasant January 16th-24th

The Pataille and the Heidsieck Champagne were great matches!

LOBSTER ROLLS WITH ADAM & JASON - West Seattle, WA, USA (10/3/2022)

A mild, late Summer evening on the deck was perfect for some lobster rolls, lobster bisque, and New England clam chowder along with Champagne and White Burg.

  • 2012 Charles Heidsieck Champagne Brut MillĆ©simĆ© - France, Champagne
Mmmm, great nose, "salted peanuts" to quote Jason, some mature aromas but also lots of verve. Very creamy mousse, so fine. This drinks so well with so much energy yet is extremely approachable.
  • 2008 Buisson-Charles Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes - France, Burgundy, CĆ“te de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Sadly this bottle was a bit advanced with somewhat golden color. It did improve a bit over the course of the night and showed as a slightly flawed but still enjoyable, buttery Meursault. Soft, mature, a little over the hill from this bottle. (NR/flawed)
  • 2019 Domaine Sylvain Pataille Marsannay Le Chapitre Blanc - France, Burgundy, CĆ“te de Nuits, Marsannay
Wow, wow, wow, this was so fun. A bit reductive and faintly flinty. The palate is very edgy, great acid, a wild ride of lemon and lime and slate. This thing has so much verve! There is a bit of a yellow fruit or maybe pear note on the finish. Really, really fun wine. Nothing incredibly profound but also supremely enjoyable. (90 points)

Terrific evening!

Depends on my mood. Good choices for my taste are:

  1. Louis Michel Butteaux
  2. Coutet
  3. Charles Heidsieck Blanc de Blanc

For me it’s a Bourgogne Blanc or premier cru chablis. Like a touch of oak with the buttered lobster. Champagne is cheating because if pairs with everything.

Tonight I ate a fresh 2# Dungeness Crab with leftover Alexandre Filaine DMY L16. Perfecto.

I don’t know why I haven’t thought about doing this. Especially as an Oregonian who spent a lot of time in Connecticut who misses lobster rolls. I’m trying this soon.
