Having variety in choice of wine is a good thing, and I do enjoy the range of taste profiles available in the different wines that I have on hand and that I am newly introduced to. On the other hand, there is seemingly no end to wines to try and to consider having on hand either to enjoy now or to age for (hopefully) future enjoyment. I have been thinking a bit lately about what minimal selection of modest wines on hand might satisfy me pretty well for the vast majority of my wine drinking needs. Somewhat like furnishing a modest six-room house with IKEA.
Can you select no more than six (6) wine types and a specific exemplar for each category from your cellar (or current playlist) that you think might work for you?
Of course, your definition of modest is your own and not mine. If you cannot be confined to six, please feel free to increase the number of rooms in your house.

Matthew, I prefer to think that I am being “flexible” with my definition of modest. But you are correct, those last two are probably not available at IKEA!
This covers most of the flavor profiles our house looks at. I’m missing a Syrah/N. Rhône but I’m not sure any of the ones we drink would be found in Ikea.
This should be no-brainer for wine drinkers that actually drink nightly. It cannot be Petrus every night! My collection is full of cellar defenders that I am more than happy to drink on any night, even weekends, in addition to those more luxurious drinks.

The title of this thread made me shudder. After spending 16 hours of bruising and cutting myself with a small Allen wrench and pulling my back lifting multi-density fiberboard for an IKEA TV wall unit many years ago, I’ll never be the same.
The thing with ikea is that their lower end stuff is garbage but their higher end stuff is often a very good value. I use an one of their sit/stand tables for my home workstation and like it at least as much as the Herman Miller tables at work.
We bought a bunch of home office stuff for my wife. It’s really actually pretty high quality. Paid a guy $75 to assemble all of it. He was in and out in 3 hours. Would have taken me 3 days.
personally, I think everyone is choosing the wrong Bedrock. don’t get me wrong, the OVZ is great. But the best wine for the price that Bedrock makes is the basic $20 Syrah. I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t love that wine. so my list would be:

The (insert name) Bedrock Syrah is good, but I picked the Jaffurs because it’s usually a better drinker in the near term. Both are really good for around $20 ish.
