I am so in love with Fred Mugnier’s wines.
Purity. Seductive fruit. Classic Chambolle to me.
I could really buy only his wines and be happy.
Probably not a wise plan I know.
I do like variety. This is one of those producers however that I could be happy as a sole provider.
Apart from the “there won’t be any left for me” type jokes, the one thing I treasure about wine is its incredible variety, the styles, flavors the way it matures. You have the wonderful matrix of nature and winemaker. Sticking with one producer would be like forever forced to watch movies with one solitary color- say bright red. Fantastic at times, ultimately so incredibly boring.
I haven’t been shopping for wine much lately, so I’m a little behind the curve…but I could have sworn I saw an offer of a vosne romanee village from Mugnier (can’t remember from where at the moment).
This is why all I am able to get locally is the NSG Clos de Marechale. Don has cornered the market on his Chambolle. I have informed his sources that they will stick Mugnier CM labels on Temecula pinot that is in the pipeline for Don.
