My best ever Petite Sirah

Old World Winery still makes an Early Burgundy/ Abouriou. Thomas Coyne in Livermore used to make one from Mokelumne River area Lodi fruit. Those are the only 2 varietal versions I’ve had.

One of the benchmark wines of my life was Foppiano Petite Sirah. I bought a half gallon (this would be ~1980), it got so much better over the 3 days it took for us to drink it that I bought a case and laid it down for 10 years (under screwcap, bottle with a jug handle).
The case was incredible, probably as close to ready to drink as any Petite Sirah I’ve ever had. We kept inviting people over, took us well under a month to blow through it. I’m guessing that the screwcap held, but there was enough oxygen in the bottle on bottling to allow it to develop.

Foppiano in a 750 was my PS epiphany in the late 80’s.

‘74 has to be the best year!

Nice!! I have a 73 in the cellar but have never tried the 74. Would love to though!

Love this! Im a huge fan of older Foppiano Petite Sirah! Currently only have a 1978 and a 1970 'Burgundy ’ in the cellar…but am always looking for more

This could be a really fun side/side

Bring it down man. Maybe Paul rolls in for both.

I have had the Old World one. Woodehead made a blend “Ranch Red” from Mendocino grapes that was 70% Early Burgundy. Very tasty.

Amazing find, Glenn.

Bogle’s hypermarche / gas station available PS is one of those bottlings worth throwing back when traveling, even if in plastic Solo crushy cups.

I get Rich to bring his 73 to Yucatán c’mon down.

I’ll open a tasty Yquem too.
