2006 Mount Eden Vineyards Chardonnay Estate Bottled Santa Cruz Mountains - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (1/25/2014)
Brilliant yellow/gold. Nose opens with dried pineapple, dust and roasted nuts. Rich but balanced on the palate with of orange marmalade, exotic honey and sweet spices. Nice poise and length. Still fresh and clean but the acidity is waning. A lovely example. Drink now through 2016. (93 pts.)

2001 Fratelli Brovia Barbaresco Rio Sordo - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco (1/25/2014)
Decanted 3 hours. Some firm, crusty sediment. This is medium/light color with some amber at the clear rim. Complex and delicately perfumed with dried berries, sweet spice and leather. This has now reached the time when the flavors are gently sweet and enticing while the tannins have softened to a supporting role. Fresh and quite classy, this would be a great ringer in blind flight of similarly aged Red Burgundy. This should continue to charm for at least several more years. Drink now through 2018. (92 pts.)
