And I really hate what’s inside. My first sips as a teen, at home, was exactly Mollydooker, while it should have been a seducing Cote du Py. I’ve just started to forgive.

This is an impressively foul label for a great wine.

I personally find the Bond labels unbelievably ugly and tacky. Harlan, though, I think is a beautiful looking bottle.

Thanks! I love his wines, they show flashes of Allemand, but his labels… Heavens, he’d had to much of a boozy vintage when he chose that design!

Can’t really agree with you here. We had a bottle of 2023 in a Cornas tasting just two days ago - it was the least favorite of everybody. Very natty and acetic, didn’t really show any varietal typicity or sense of place. It felt as if mousiness was lurking right behind the corner, ready to jump at you. The 2022 that was tasted alongside was a bit better, but still far behind any other producer.

I enjoyed the 2017 vintage some years ago, and I had my expectations set quite high based on that experience, but after these two disappointing vintages I’ve now written Bourg off, at least for the time being.

And yeah, the label is quite horrible. :grinning_face:

You have really worried me! The last vintage I tasted was the 21, that seemed fine (for a 21). I have tried the 14, 16, 17, 18 and 19 several times and the 20 a couple of times and loved them all! Has he tuned into the natural wine bullshit? Has the horror of his label messed with his mind? Oh lordy, I hope he’s not making rubbish now. I will try and gather some more information… I do not think there is much point in getting a 22 out of storage right now as they will be closed down, but I know some people who tried them on release and I will ask them. Further investigations to follow!

I’ve understood his wines have always been more or less natural in style, but at least he has employed tiniest additions of SO2 upon bottling.

This 2023 felt like it would’ve needed a bit more of sulfites and quite a bit earlier in the process. Or then this vintage was his attempt at making wine without any SO2 additions? I don’t know.

The 2022 was much cleaner, but nevertheless lacking in freshness and vibrancy to some degree. We had some Vincent Paris, Franck Balthazar, Guillaume Gilles and Clape to compare it to - and while a drinkable wine, it couldn’t hold a candle to any of these producers (although I wasn’t too keen on Gilles’s style).

Wow, that must have been quite a tasting. I am jealous - even though you must have been scrubbing tannin from your teeth for days afterwards! :wink:

When I have tried older vintages of Bourg, soon after release, they have never struck me as being natural in style. Traditionally made, sure, like Gilles and Lionnet, but not going in for any specifically natural silliness like low SO2… Hmmm…

I guess I will have to try some of my older wines and see what has become of them. Thanks for the warning!

Totally agree. Very awkward typographic choices and generally a bit boring.

Definitely extremely low effort. Looks like an intern spent 10 minutes on it
