More San Fran/Oakland Ideas

Oakland: Commis (reservations a couple of weeks or more in advance often required)

I just typed up a whole list and it disappeared. F***

OAKLAND RECOMMENDATIONS:

Casual Fare:
Shan Dong (Chinatown) – Chinese. Very good pork buns and noodle dishes
Tay-Ho (Chinatown) – Vietnamese
Hawker Fare (Downtown) – high end Vietnamese street food by James Shyabout. Owner/Chef of Commis, Oakland’s only Michelin starred restaurant.
Lanesplitters (Temescal) – good NY style pizza, fun beer selection.
4Caminos (Fruitvale) – good cheap Mexican. But there are lots in that area
True Burger (Downtown)
510 Burger – burger truck. Check out facebook or twitter to see where they are.
Trappist (Downtown) – great beer selection and decent bar food.
Adesso (Piedmont Ave)
Boot & Shoe Service (Grand Ave/Lake Merritt) – great Neapolitan style pizza + they make their own tonic water - unreal

Mid Priced to High End:
Plum (Downtown)
Haven (Jack London Square) – ate there last night. Awesome.
Chop Bar (Jack London) – PIG! Oink Oink
Wood Tavern (Rockridge)
Hudson on College (Rockridge)
Enoteca Molinari (Rockridge) – all Italian wine list plus very good pasta dishes.
Oliveto and Oliveto Café (Rockridge)
Pizzaiolo (Temescal)– sister to Boot & Shoe. Pizza, awesome. Great pasta dishes plus others.
Commis (Piedmont Ave) – Michelin starred. Awesome!

Plus there are a host of Korean places between downtown and Temescal & Rockridge neighborhoods. From downtown Oak to Temescal/Rockridge is only about 1.5 miles. Although you have to dodge a lot of hipsters on single speed bikes.

If you want watering holes: some new ones have popped up too. From wine bars like Punchdown to Make Westing, which has an indoor Bocce Court.

Also wineries: Urban Cellars, JC Cellars, and Dashe are all very close to one another in Jack London Sq. area.

They are right next door to each other

a lot of other great spots already mentioned.

Is that TV??? About time, you kept us waiting.

If beer is desired, I love Trappist.

It is…and I’m sure you all were waiting with baited breath rolleyes

Trappist added Taco Tuesday’s for $2. Tacos are from Tamarindo next door and pretty good. Otherwise, they have some nibbles like cheese and sausage.

Beer Revolution is open too…in Jack London area. Almost all CA beer list and a decidedly grungier crowd but they have an amazing bottle selection that you can buy and take home. I perused the coolers last night looking at some of the 750mL bottles. Impressive…but I felt like I needed some piercings, a hoody and the straight bar/fixie

Muchas Grass

Cool. Need to hit next time I’m up.

Si Senor!

Philip - I’ll chime in with a list of SF recommendations if no one else does…although most of my SF dining these days consists of dinner at our friends house…she’s an amazing cook.

Shan Dong and Trappist getting visitors tonight once we get the car outta the airport. Come down meal after New Orleans! Praying Trappist will let the monkey in while Mel & I have one.
