Anyone ever have any of the legal (or non legal) stuff?
I’m going to a store today and going to buy a bottle of moonshine I saw on the shelves, curiosity has gotten the better of me, especially since I started watching the Discovery Channel’s “Moonshiners” series, pretty good show. Anybody else get into that show? ![cheers [cheers.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/0/0ff9bfcdb0964982cd3240b6159868fbdf215b1a.gif)
I guarantee this purchase will be your longest opened, never finished.
Amen to all the above. Had some for new years from a friend and fell down the stairs. Not my idea of a good time. Nasty and strong. Moonshine that is.
Tickle is definitely the star of the show
Thanks for the link Brent. I think I’ll save this for the annual family 4th of July BBQ, we always Bourbon, but a shot of this wouldn’t be so bad to try.
The stuff sold in stores labeled as moonshine is not moonshine. It is vile- not in the same way that people normally think of moonshine, but in totally different, but equally as abhorrent way.
Real moonshine can be pretty special. The hard part, of course, is knowing your source. (See the link posted above)
In the late 70’s while stationed at Fort Bragg I had some really nice
moonshine and lots of bad moonshine, The best was a great high similar to top shelf mescal, not sure I would appreciate it today evrything has its place and time, like Glenn I no longer enjoy fist fighting but that could change with enough white lightning.
About the show, which I have been watching…it’s not real is it?
The problem with drinking homemade Moonshine is that you don’t always know if you’re getting Methanol or Ethenol. The front and tail of any distillation will be Methanol and drinking it will make you go blind or kill you (It can be poured back in and distilled with the next batch). I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable drinking any Moonshine made by an untrained distiller.
Bill
They had about 30 minutes of footage and stretched it into 4 or 5 hour long episodes.
I don’t think it is moonshine if it is sold in a store.
But you’ll probably like the real stuff. It’s about the same alcohol as those Cali Cabs you love. ![[neener.gif] neener](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/3/3bd35321ffd7ed2243d1d518ebb606d554360600.gif)
Mark,
If you’re going to summer sip, definitely try it with Ginger beer and lemon, or lemonade, or a half & half with lemonade/iced tea.
A couple of the top cocktail bars here in the city also do a ‘white julep,’ substituting the white dog for bourbon.
