Monthly check-in: Cellar inventory reduction plan

I’m so screwed. I had been trying to clear out some space, reducing the inventory, and then the deals, stupid not to buy by the case, buying spree began. I just got some PG too, re-organizing was in order. After clearing what was on the floor, I discovered I only had 19 open slots with the Spring sales right around the corner. Flap crap flap.

I haven’t seen an open slot since 1997. I’d just like to see the floor again. :head_bang:

I quit buying this year and have stuck to it (even skipped BD entirely) so I logged onto CellarTracker to see how the first 2.5 months have gone.

Skipping BD and not ordering over the winter for spring shipments is pretty big deal for me.

Haven’t really bought much this month either.

Better than I had hoped for March, given that we are dry for Lent. Made up for it with gifting.

March was bad. March is getting worse, as I have 240 bottles from dad’s cellar, ready to be entered to the inventory.

There’s still 600-800 bottles left in dad’s cellar, most of which I really don’t care about. They aren’t bad wines (well, maybe 5% are crypt items), but I just have no interest in them. The question is how to get rid of them as easily as possible.

My March was great! Got pending wine list to zero! Tasted at 4 wineries where we picked up pre-purchased wine!

The downside is of course those tastings led to additional purchases… boooo.

March:

Purchased: 44
Consumed: 20

Net: +24

Send a list to a few brokers asking for all-in offers?

It’s not worth bothering. That’s the thing.

Unhappy this month with both comings and goings:

March:

Doesn’t even count kosher for Passover wines that wil be consumed (and not counted) in April. I have no idea why my rules include this carve-out.

YTD Net: +3
2026 Goal: -50

I bless it.

We did well this month:

The “out” includes a not insignificant inventory adjustment on one of our house pours that we sometimes forget to record. But when we realized we were down below a case on the vintage we are currently drinking, we updated CT.

Ok, just looked at my first entry six years ago and according to CT in all that time I have reduced my holdings by a total of ten bottles! Drats. Might be time to sell some.
