Montalcino tips

Good call. I got nabbed on my trip early last year.
Shocked. How could they track me down in America.
They did. Modern technology :scream:

They know it’s a rental and the car agency gives the Italian government your information.

Italians sell the fine to international collection companies. I’ve never paid.

I have 2 outstanding tickets from 10-15 years ago in Italy. Driving the wrong way on a one way street in Sicily (that got ugly :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:) and driving in a plaza on Sunday in Parma.

And one in Portugal for blasting through a toll.

It’s gonna happen.

That place is a Michelin Three Keys resort and deserves it! We had dinner at La Taverna and everything there was just perfect.

I was there in 2015 and got a ticket a few years later. I don’t know if I’ll ever get back but if I do, I don’t want to spend my time in a Tuscan jail so I paid it.

Second this. You can try some of Montalcino’s finest by small pour. I think I paid $5 euros per taste, including Poggio do Soto, Cupano, Valdicava, etc.

As for wineries, we had a lovely lunch and tasting at Livio Sassetti, it’s definitely a working winery, but the hospitality was fantastic. I remember the cost being more than reasonable. I’m ready to go back!

I’d highly recommend Uccelliera. I visited there around 10 years ago and still have fond memories. The wines are great, but the hospitality and overall experience are what really stood out.

Someone mentioned Sesta di Sopra upthread and I want to second them. We were there in October and they were lovely hosts for a tasting in their home. Their Brunello Riserva is terrific and the Rosso is quite nice at a good price. We shipped some of both home.

Second Grappolo Blu - had a nice dinner there but service wasn’t great. Best bang for my buck and true Italian vibe was Il Moro. 55 eur lunch for two that was excellent, including a bottle of Rosso and complimentary grappa. Definitely not quick but my wife and I loved the authenticity.

We stayed at Mastrojanni so did the tasting there and Piccolimini. piccolimini was very hospitable and would recommend. mastrojanni we did just because we stayed there.

Yes - Le Chiuse w Lorenzo the winemaker, barrel tasting, humble, family vibes, high quality, Biondi-Santi pedigree but moderate pricing great experience

My favorite restaurant in Montalcino for years has been Drogheria Franci – shocked it’s not already been mentioned. They also have a nice wine bar La Sosta around the corner.
