Mondovino Director Jonathan Nossiter - Interview

A great interview with Jonathan Nossiter with a third part coming next week.

Thanks for posting. Didn’t know he had a book coming out, I’ll look forward to it. It would be nice if they’d translate his last one!

I thought this WAS the translation of his last one, no?

Is it? Can’t tell. The title isn’t the same.

That happens a lot. Check the titles of American movies overseas…

I checked with Nossiter’s US editor, who I know, and she says of the book: “He talks about it at length on the third part of his terrific REIGN OF TERROIR interview. It’s really wholly re-shaped, and about a third of it is new.”

Thanks for posting this. It is going straight to the top of my reading list.

Glad to see you are so impressed with your own work. You are the same Brandon Miller who is listed as Administrator on that site and did the interview, no?

I am the same Brandon Miller on that site, however, this is not my article, my work, nor am I an admin on Reign of Terroir. This is the work of my friend Ken Payton, who is also the admin, and I find him to be a great interviewer and writer.
I do not get paid by Reign of Terroir and I rarely write for it due to time constraints.
If I’m listed somewhere as the admin, please let me know and I will have Ken fix it but I looked and cannot find it.

If someone does not like the article then so be it.
I posted the article because I thought it was a great three piece interview and I wanted to share it with others.

It is right there, big as life:

AUTHORS
Administrator
Brandon Miller

Ken Payton, however, is not listed anywhere. Have you visited the page you linked?

Do be careful about this, Brandon…we don’t want to create any issues regarding self-promotion of commercially related sites outside of Commerce Corner

You are listed as an author, but you state you are not - can we clarify this?

I don’t know how to clarify it better than I already did. It doesn’t say I am the admin it lists me as one of the authors, which I am, and already said I am. If you click on admin it takes you to the articles written by the admin, Ken Payton, if you click on Brandon Miller it takes you to the two little articles I have written. It was, in no way, meant as a self promotion. I have never done that on this site, in this posting area, and don’t know why it would be taken a such.

Want me to be even more honest? One of the articles Ken wrote was about my winery, though I wouldn’t think anyone would dig far enough to find it, so move it if you must, but it was honestly, not my intention.

Some clarification:

  1. No money is made on this site, period. All book links are straight links with no commission. They are simply there for readers benefit.

  2. Reign of Terroir - High Tech Winemaking" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Ken Payton is the first bio and his name, is in fact, on the site.

Neal is misunderstanding that section. It says Authors and the administrator is listed as one of the authors along with a few others.

Thanks, Brandon…

My issue here was and is a very limited one. If someone wants to come onto the board and say “I (or a friend of mine) did an interview with Nossiter that you might find interesting and here is the link” I have zero issue with that – in fact would find it to be a service. But Brandon here and Payton at ebob both posted notes that pretended to be totally disassociated with the effort – “gosh, look at this great interview I just stumbled into.” That was disingenuous at best. Just be up-front about who you are and what your connection might be to the project, that’s all. I wasn’t suggesting the post was a commercial one.

Thanks Brandon for the link. Interesting article/interview.

Absolutely true, Neal.

Most of the membership here does provide SOME sort of disclaimer for the benefit of the readers here when posting anything in which they have an interest. This is a smart move for each of us.

Yeah, his last book, “Le gout et le pouvoir” was ok. I really liked Mondovino, but I felt as though the book was just a diatribe. Although he said the book wasn’t an extension of the film, I felt as though it was and more. It definitely worked well for the French market, the land of terroir, i.e. “les vins qui s’expriment le terroir”…well at least some of them.

I read it for my Master’s thesis and I felt as though it really wasn’t worth my time. I’m intrigued to see what he’s done to retool it for the English-speaking crowd. You have to wonder if it’ll be republished in French. Anyone know?
