Wines with dinner tonight:

2002 Bichot Macon Villages Domaine Clos de L’Eglise -Golden yellow, flowers, dirt, minerals, etc (french burg), perfect balance, medium finish. Very good. Amzing value, current price for 2007 is $15, why would anyone buy Chardonnay from anywhere else?

2004 Bichot Chablis Moutonne - Pale yellow, shy nose, medium full bodied, viscous, wonderful mineral/fruit balance, can’t be new world, but nobody would ever guess Chablis for it’s weight. Wow.

2006 Loring PN Rosella’s - Ruby color, rhubarb berry, moderate candied flavor. Sorry Brian, I luv ya, but I don’t like Rosellas Vynd, never have, not my style, at least this is more fruit than tomato.

1996 Lanessan Haut Medoc - Getting some brick color, but very dark, gorgeous nose and flavor, this is what aged Bordeaux is all about. No need to spend $XXX’s on classed growths. About $35-$40 locally. Great deal for fine wine.

2005 Chateau Karantes (disclaimer: owned by a friend) - purple black color & fruit, BIG fruit, great tannin balance, ATTN: Insider note for Berserkers only: the wine consultant for this vineyard is the same as Negly = Claude Gros. THIS IS A $15-$20 WINE IN YOUR MARKETPLACE, they are clearing it out 'cause 2006 is coming, YOU NEED TO BUY IT!

Thanks for the notes. Love the low $ price points on some of those.

I am a bit like you with Rosella’s … According to CT I did skip the 06. I think the vineyard is distinctive and loved by many but not my personal favorite. I pick a few up here and there but it is rare. I mainly get because I do think it has unique qualities … but the general price point seems to be out of whack.

Jason, I completely agree with you on your price point comment. For upwards of $40 a bottle, the Loring was completely underwhelming. There wasn’t anything really wrong with it, but just an average bottle of wine. My ‘tomato’ comment was in regard to a 2004 Loring Rosella’s that I had a couple of years ago, really disagreeable flavors. I think that I asked for credit on my last Loring order for that one! Don’t mean to say that I dislike all of Brian’s wines, though, a 2004 Naylor Dry Hole a year back was fabulous.

I like Brian’s wines too. I really enjoyed the 04 Naylor and still have a few stashed away.

I have to add a quick note, the Rosella’s was much better another night later.
