Minneapolis Restaurants for Christmas

My younger brother and his girlfriend live in Minneapolis, and I would like to send them a gift certificate for a night out to a restaurant. They are in their early 30s and appreciate food and wine, but they’re certainly not foodies. I’d like to send them somewhere new and happening, but with excellent food. Looking at reviews, I’ve found In Season, Heidi’s, or 112 Eatery, and I’m leaning towards In Season, simply because I’d go there if I were in town.

Is In Season a good choice? Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

Also consider Cafe Levain on South Chicago and Heartland Restaurant (St Paul). I really like both of these and have been to those you mention in your post. Also, sorry about not including links, but I can’t figure out how to do that.

In Season is a great choice, excellent food, Don Saunders the chef/owner is usually in the kitchen and he’ll do
a tasting menu if you ask. Small, but very well chosen wine list and reasonably priced. We seem to go there about
once a month and it’s always a treat.
A couple of other restaurants that I would recomend in Minneapolis are Piccolo, small plates, great food, and Tilia, although
Tilia doesn’t take reservations, so get there early.

Adding to those mentioned above I’d add Meritage in St. Paul (small French / seafood), The Bachelor Farmer (Nordic flair in warehouse district) and Restaurant Alma (fresh from the farm located near U of M). Hard to go wrong with anything listed here so far.

I second Alma. Never been to Bachelor Farmer or In Season.

Thanks everyone!
