Hi everyone, I apologize for the late-ish notice on this, but am hoping to get together with everyone as part of my triennial-or-so major trip to California. I think we have at least 3 (with Yao Choong and Ed Kurtzman confirmed) and would love to see a few more people. I will send out some PMs and would ask that someone take the reins for organizing. I’ll be visiting with Ed before dinnertime but I think anytime and anywhere in SF will work for me. Thanks very much in advance.
Thanks for your patience, guys. I think we’re aiming for Taishan, but I have to check with Ed. Will look to confirm today for sure. I also need to see if we can book for 10 or 11. Fingers crossed.
Make sure you book at the 781 Broadway location. Jackson St. one is fine, but there’s only one table large enough. The food at the Ocean Ave one was mediocre. Our group was a one-and-done there.
Still 7PM. Larry, are you trying to hit every Taishan in SF? There are a lot! I went to the one on Broadway last Sunday night. It was great. We had the back room to ourselves, even though we only had one table. They mostly left us to ourselves once the food was served. Yao recommend 2 key dishes that we loved. We discovered the crunchy rice at the bottom of the clay pot yellow eel rice. Don’t miss that.
No, just to the three Taishan Cuisine restaurants. I’ve been to the Broadway location numerous times. There’s a Taishan Cuisine Usual Suspects group. Yao and Winfred are charter members. The yellow eel clay pot rice is a must as well as the roast chicken. One off-menu item is stir-fried sweet potato greens and garlic. They don’t always have it, but we make sure to ask.
Those are the 2 dishes Yao recommended and we got them, the eel rice and the chicken. I like the way the server de-boned the chicken for us. I’m pretty sure they’ll put us at 2 round tables with lazy Staceys. We had a woman named Stacey with us on Sunday, so we gave Susan a break and renamed the table wheel.
