I will be on the road January 11 to 21 in these towns and my big question is… where should I eat? Mind you I will be in tow with a rep parading me around, but great food is great food. Let me know your suggestions and if you’ll be around, especially Houston where I will have more time. TIA.
It has beena few years, but I had a memorable meal at Hugo’s in Houston - newish wave mexican food.
Are you guys all Vegans?
Is Cafe Annie’s in Houston still a good place to go? Have not been for awhile but it was good last time I was there . . .
I can speak to Miami.
For steak and eye candy, go to the Forge Restaurant. Try to get reservations as late as you can They have a very impressive wine list. Make reservations as soon as possible if you choose to go there.
Any cuban joint on Washington to get a Cuban Sandwhich and a shot of adrenaline (err, I mean cuban coffee).
For good, high end Cuban/Nicaraguan Food. Try Los Rancho’s.
There is a China Grill in Miami that is very good, but yet, it is a chain of sorts.
It is stone crab season, if you enjoy them, you MUST go to Joe’s Stone Crabs. Its an institution down here.
There is also a good Smith and Wollensky’s on the water, great view.
If the rep takes you to Ft. Lauderdale, go to Bova Prime of Steak954. Both offer very nice views of the little ladies. Steak954 is in the new W hotel. just bring some pain killers, your neck will hurt from turning so much…make sure you stop by the bar on the second level.
Houston - Always loved Mark’s New American Cuisine or simply Mark’s.
If you get in the mood for some hole-in-the-wall BBQ, try Luling City Market in Houston near the Galleria (on Richmond, just inside 610). It is my favorite BBQ joint in town. Try the sausage and ribs, a staple of my diet. But don’t expect a wine list here!
If you enjoy Spanish wines, El Meson has a great wine list at reasonable prices. The food is Cuban insipred and very good.
Mark’s and Cafe Annie are both very good as well.
Thanks!
In Houston
For upscale Voice in the hotel Icon is excellent, Textile is excellent, both have waived corkage for me (at times). Ibiza has value priced wine list and good food, of course the chains are consistent (Strip house, Smith & Wol.) Indika is also great upscale India influenced food. Then we have great hole in the wall places like Himalaya & Kim Tai on Fannin (great spring rolls and wonderful Duck Soup)
It was a good trip. Top three places to eat: Naples-Bleu Provence; Richmond- Buz and Ned’s; Houston- Community Pub.
In Miami, go to Barton G’s. Cool place, great presentation of food.
Without a doubt get to Catalan Food and Wine if you’re in Houston.
