I like Dante’s for the music, esp on a weekday. Cocktails are just so so when they’re slammed and on the weekend it’s a full on club. Such is the way in Miami, papos!
I really wonder if this happens when restaurants get a star or a mention? I remember Los Felix getting worse after their star, same goes with Ariete or is this a Miami specific thing.
The only exception in my experience was Stubborn Seed which I was at recently and its still very good.
I am going to talk to them about getting a few decent wines.
One question for the Miami crew. Given the types of restaurants I like, I will most likely going back to many of them.
What area would you recommend staying in. The constant driving back and forth from South Beach was torture.
It does not happen in NYC in fact they usually strive to keep it. Four Horsemen is a great example. It was a big surprise when they got a star but they have improved every year since.
Hard to say about where to say, tbh I’d stay in the Gables or the Grove and Uber everywhere. Getting in and out of the beach is torture. You may want to look at some places in midtown.
this is only a few years old and wow has it become absolutely insane. 90 minutes one day from the W to the grove.
design district would be good for you i think. brickell has a ton of hotels, it’s a bit of a circus. but at least it’s centrally located.
Agreed they took away the king crab pasta that I loved.
I would either stay in Brickell or Surfside/Bal Harbor area.
Design District prob puts you in a central shlep locale. Good enough walking options for coffee and entertainment, much quicker to spots in Upper Bunea Vista or downtown/wynwood.
whenever there is a large-scale event/conference on the beach (iconnections, spring break, art basel) avoid crossing the bridges!
Glad you enjoyed it!!!
Cote Miami was fantastic all around - food, service, vibe.
Started with Cote Ceviche and their specialty, Steak and Eggs (filet tartare with caviar), both devoured by all, including my two teens
For steaks (all cooked on the tabletop), we started with the filet, then 4oz A5 wagyu, then skirt steak, and finished off with their Cote steak (American Wagyu). Obviously the A5 was divine, but I thought the Cote steak punched way above its weight and enjoyed that nearly as much
For sides, we shared the bibimbop, kimchi wagyu paella and an off-menu mushroom dish. All enjoyed by everyone, although we were pretty full.
I was the only one drinking, so enjoyed a glass of Cremant to start and a “party glass” pour of 2014 Hermanos Pecina Rioja with dinner. All their BTG offerings (aside from Champagne) are from magnum
Wonderful dinner, made even more special from a friend who is friends with Simon, the owner. Can’t wait to try their Vegas location when it opens later this year
Sparrow in Wynwood last night. What a scene - decor, music (90s hip hop that turns into live music after 8pm).
And the food was outstanding too. We stuck with pasta after still having the meat sweats from Cote the night before.
Daughter had Wagyu bolognese and our son had the truffle A5 Wagyu pizza (
)
My wife and I shared a salad and two pastas - truffle cacio pepe and the pesto pasta dish.
Another great dinner experience in Miami, although advice if traveling inland from Miami or South Beach, it took a full hour to get to the restaurant from The Edition in MB (6 miles I believe)
Wow surprised to hear good food at Sparrow! I’m usually quite cynical when something ritzy opens ![]()
Had friends in town who wanted to do a club night in wynwood so we obliged with dinner at sparrow along with drinks at Dante’s and some…extracurriculars after.
Sparrow was meh. Dante’s good as usual. The afters were where it was at!
Where did you go after?
Uchiko at the beach was excellent. Would return for sure. Large and varied menu, everything was executed well. I don’t know who the pastry chef is for the group, but desserts were phenomenal - inventive and whimsical.
wine list was pretty / really bad I did see someone bring a bottle so corkage is an option.

Finally got around to trying Entrenos. Food was really great, but the service was terrible. $35 corkage which is great but we had to refill our own water and wine. Not Michelin. Honestly worst service I’ve experienced living in Miami in 10+ years.
This place makes me question the Michelin star quality down here.
It’s an unfortunate fact of life. There aren’t venues for young creatives to matriculate into in MIA the way there is in NY (e.g., “starving actor” or “Julliard student”), so there are less sticky service staff at most restaurants. A lot of young people move here to party, which doesn’t help with punctuality or reliability, which increase churn, etc etc…
E.g., I have been banging the drum on Recoveco, had some good friends try it. Their waiter forgot to fire their order! They waited 45 mins. He probably knew and was self consicious so he didn’t approach the table! They got their food aobut 1.25 hrs after the tables that were sat alongside them. No formal apology or remediation by the front of house, either. Total bummer to hear about given what the place aspires to be…
