Domaine Matrot
2022 Bourgogne Blanc

From the epic 2022 vintage, I have had my eye on this for a few weeks and just finished working out a deal for you! The original price was a little bit higher than where we thought this would sell well at, so we went to work with our importer to get the price down for us all! This was originally going to have to be $42, and even then at that price its a great buy, but I thought we could do better! We just tasted it and were extremely impressed with it over 2 days open with just the stelvin closure. I used a repour re-seal it for 2 more days and it still showed great.

This wine contains 80% Meursault fruit that is declassified into “Bourgogne” and is what makes this such a special opportunity! We just tasted it and it OVER-delivers! Get in on the secret while it is still little known!

If you are asking yourself why is that a big deal, if it were all Meursault fruit it would cost $100!

ALSO, Domaine Matrot will be at La Paulee this year and I look forward to meeting them and trying more of their 2023 wines!

“Bottled in August. 80% comes from Meursault from Vaux Malpoiriers, Coutures and Lameroses, plus their own vines in the Hautes Côtes and some purchased fruit from near Chablis. 17% new wood, seasoning it for subsequent use in the 2023 cru vineyards. Pure clear colour. An absolutely gorgeous immediate juicy fruit, riotously delicious. This is exactly what I want to drink, with a perfect balancing acidity.” Tasted Oct 2023.

"Lightly toasty lemon fruit. Very good Bourgogne, with dry, chalky structure and fresh citrus, with good depth in the middle. (JH) 13% Drink 2024 – 2026

Our Tasting Note
A lemon yellow core with light gold edges. The nose is pronounced, initially with attractive reductive notes and toast from the oak, that mellows with air and integrates nicely as the ripe lemon citrus and juicy apple fruit come to the fore. The oak then becomes more hazelnut, with subtle toasty spices. Fret not, the minerality and terroir all comes through on the racy palate (classic young burg shows more like this on the nose). The medium body has med/med+ acidity, mouthwatering, with mouthfilling and tantalizingly intense flavors that have a core of minerality wrapped in the fruits and spices. A very long and fresh finish that seems to linger forever. Outstanding, it indeed drinks just like an AOC Meursault!

  • About the Winery: Domaine Matrot
Joseph Matrot (1881-1963), the grandson of owners of a family wine estate in Puligny-Montrachet and Blagny, lived with his wife, Marguerite Amoignon, and their three children at Château d’Evelle. Marguerite also owned a beautiful wine estate in Meursault. In 1914, they took up residence in Marguerite’s family home, which is today the seat of Domaine Matrot, and decided to develop and extend the estate. Over the course of generations, Domaine Matrot continued to expand with the addition of new vineyard holdings, and in 2000 began harvesting the vineyards organically. Today, sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot are in charge of the management and winemaking of the Domaine, ensuring that the family-run domaine will be in good hands for many years to come. Observing careful cultivation and vinification techniques, Domaine Matrot wines offer purity of fruit and terroir-driven character.
