I really like the new software, but there’s one thing that I find a clear step back: information on the people posting in a thread. The new design obviously looks much sleeker and more streamlined, but the avatars are very small and there’s no more information on things like location, count post, etc. It makes identifying new users from veterans (aka the “street-cred-check”) or more generally people I know much more difficult.
Is there any way to bring some of that information back (maybe without the signatures)? Or at least make it optional for users so they can turn that on and deal with more “clutter”?
If clicking on the avatar showed the number of posts for that user, would that be enough? I’d like that, so I don’t have to open it full screen. Location is another thing I’d like to see in that quick avatar view. Oops, it’s already there. So just post count.
Correct, it won’t come back, as (has been mentioned a few times) the goal of this system is to be less crowded with info, cleaner, concentrating more on content but with access to more information as needed
If somebody is ITB, where is that information now housed? It was often helpful to know 1) if somebody is ITB and 2) if so, where they work … often was illuminating info and context for their posts
In the ‘welcome’ pinned thread in this forum, there is specific info on ITB
It does require people ITB to put that info in their profile, where it can then be found with a quick click of the avatar, at which time it pops up. Will be a bit of a learning curve, knowing that most ITB are too busy to futz around with their profiles, but we’ll get there! There is even ITB ‘flair’ (where you have Monopole Cru flair, for example) they can choose in their profiles
I agree that this makes certain types of posts less valuable to me because I don’t see myself clicking into profiles all the time to see if someone is in the business.
You don’t HAVE to click to see if they are in the business - eventually those ITB will all have their ITB flair on their username, just like you have your MC flair on yours. It will take time.
It is, but most often they DO so choose, and besides, trust that the THOUSANDS of ‘hall monitors’ here will point it out at some point, at which time the moderators can step in, or often it is called out publicly and they can fix it themselves, as was the case on the old system
