may you post your NYE overall experience beyond TN's?

  1. Were you buzzed at all? ( if yes and you drove, please don’t post in this thread)

  2. Did you plan on driving? What did you plan?

  3. Did you follow your plan exactly?

  4. What wine was a waste of calories to drink and what wine was worth arranging for a driver?

  5. Did you have any cocktails or fortified wine with your table type wine? In retrospect would it have been better to stick with table wine?

This is for my own selfish purposes to learn what other people do and copy them and still enjoy good wine.

Oncall, will have early dinner out and a glass of champs then shut it down.

We will not drive.
I have a good off-switch but I’m not so sure about the other folks on the roads.

Dinner at home with Champers followed by a glass of the same with neighbors next door.

The wonderful thing about living in/near NYC is public transportation. I don’t have to worry about drinking too much to drive or what condition other people on the road might be in.

  1. barely, see below
  2. Yes - home from work
  3. Yes
  4. Neither and neither
  5. No
I worked until 22:30. Went straight home. My better half is on thirds this week so at work right now.
I opened a bottle of Alsacian sparkling wine and had a rather large glass since Seacrest’s show was painful to watch this year (I miss Dick, though TWSS). Opened a bottle of Donnhoff just a minute ago since my plan is to drink more riesling in 2015. A glass of each and the rest of both bottles are in the fridge. I can tell that I drank a rather large glass of bubbles as I’m relaxed but wouldn’t even call it a buzz. Headed to bed shortly b/c I have to be back at work in 12 hours. Cheers to 2015!

Drove around all day long. Got wasted and went out driving again ust for kicks. Weaving in and out and watching all the squares was a blast!!!

Not really. Actually spent the day trying to get the damned landlord to fix the heat as we’re having an unusual cold spell. Wine on the counter is at serving temp, which has its benefits but it’s not that comfortable if you’re just sitting around.

1 yes
2 no - byo NYE party on roof of my apartment building, watching in-your-face Central Park fireworks
3 yes
4 i never worry about wine calories
5 two high octane starbucks, with extra heavy creme, topped with Jameson

1a … I stepped on a screw cap

  1. Were you buzzed at all? Enough to worry I’d have a hangover this morning, but it never really happened

  2. Did you plan on driving? What did you plan? No. Walked to our friends with some bottles & food, and walked back. 75 mins walk each way

  3. Did you follow your plan exactly? Yes, though we probably should have grabbed a taxi on the way there, but the walk back is always a great way to tackle any over-indulgence

  4. What wine was a waste of calories to drink and what wine was worth arranging for a driver? The ~ 6 yr old Roederer NV champagne was showing some maturity, but probably needed another 3-4 years for my palate. Still quite a classy toasting wine. The 1996 White Tondonia Rioja was the star. Complex and was a great match for strong food flavours, being so boldly flavoured itself other wines were good (no duds) but none of the others rose above supporting cast to the good company

  5. Did you have any cocktails or fortified wine with your table type wine? In retrospect would it have been better to stick with table wine? I was going to take a 1997 Quinta da Eira Velha (single quinta) Port, but in hindsight it was a sensible move to avoid things getting too messy. I probably drink 1 cocktail a decade so never something that I give any thought to

Certainly one sensible move if driving is to drink lots of water, to quench a thirst and ensure you’re drinking something when others are drinking alcohol. Food as well. Of all the nights to push the alc. consumption up to the limit, this is the worst choice for many reasons (the least of which is that police forces tend to be very keen to breathalyse). A cyclist was killed in a hit and run accident in St Leonards, Sussex last night. One life was ended, and if they catch the perp, then their life will be massively compromised by such stupidity.

Ian

  1. Nope, I drank pretty responsibly even though I was not driving and was taking free transit home. I just didn’t feel like overindulging.

  2. I ended up taking a free TTC bus and subway ride home.

  3. Plan was followed exactly.

  4. Waste of calories was a 2003 Jurancon that was aged too long and was dead on arrival and a weird tasting Spanish sparkling Pinot Noir based Rosé Cava.

  5. I did have a fortified Muscat de Patras from Greece as part of a sweet wine selection.

12 of us (all live on the same street) met at a friend’s house for Taittinger NV and a mag of Roederer Estate, then walked to a local restaurant (Cin-Cin) where we had a few bottles of a 2012 Brusset Gigondas and some modern-tasting Spanish Bdx blend. BTW Cin-Cin has a pork belly steam bun that is to die for. After dinner we went back to the house and rang in the new year. Someone put on '70’s disco and they started dancing, so I feigned going to the restroom, climbed out the window and walked home to go to bed.

You are such a Gringo!

I woulda been on the floor, bustin a move. Actually, our party cranked some ABBA. The girls love ABBA, Dancing Queen. And we like watching them dance . . . .

Went to a tasting dinner at Farm and Table Restaurant here in Albuquerque. All wines were small pours, so no, we didn’t get drunk. It was an amazing meal though, starting with a crab and blood orange salad paired with vermouth, a pork dumpling with a baked oyster (Il Bastard Pinot Grigio); wagyu beef with a delicious broth (Il Bastardo Sangiovese); young chicken with celeriac cream and purple potatoes (Black Chicken zin); and a champagne with grapefruit and a pastry for dessert. Didn’t eat the dumpling or pastry (gluten issues), but one of the best meals we have had!

And yes, that was the plan. Wines went well with the food, so we were happy. And home by 9:30!

Left house for restaurant with 3 great wines in the car for various stages of the evening. None were consumed as it turned out. Car got stuck in mud. Had dinner at home with a beer instead of the Spanish wine at the Spanish restaurant I never got to. Drove to GF ’ s family event and donated the 91 Ridge Lytton to the hostess when she acted confused when I said go ahead and open it. Had two limoncellos. GF drove. By the time midnight rolled around I didn’t want to open the 1996 Gosset Celebris.

  1. Started drinking around 8PM and kept the buzz going all night
  2. Stayed in with the kids
  3. Everything went according to plan except for the local ABC affiliate who in their infinite wisdom killed the Dick Clark show in favor of the local NYE celebration hosted by our local Weatherman and Sports guy. The show sucked!
  4. Wife had some berry beer and missed out on great champagne

Had a couple over for dinner. Started about 6:00 pm. Opened four bottles of wine (we don’t do cocktails) over the course of the evening. Drained two of them–one of which was a 1/2-bottle of dessert wine (9% ABV). So, there is, maybe a glass and a half left in one of the bottles, and, maybe two glasses in the other. Husband of the visiting couple has a medical condition that prevents him from drinking. So, he was about to drive home (about 2 miles) pretty easily. They left at about 11:30. Wife and I were easily able to make our way upstairs uneventfully.

We’re sorry about that neener
