Just saw this article on Wine-Searcher. I’m sure someone has posted this already or commented but as I just saw this I figured I would attach the link.

Man, Full Recovery and Severe Head Trauma is not something you hear in the same sentence. I hope, hope Elaine’s quotes are true. TBI is a horrible affliction that I hope the Krankl family isn’t dealing with. Best wishes!

This will all take time and individual cases vary greatly. I am an Army veteran who was badly injured a number of years ago, I won’t go into details but I suffered significant TBI (traumatic brain injury) along with severe injuries to my legs, knees, arms, and shoulders. It was only long into the recovery process after a number of surgeries that my TBI impact became really apparent. I have never recovered the ability to read novels… That sounds minor but it is the best way to describe the extant of my “disability.” I used to love reading novels… Pynchon, Vonnegut, Barth, Hesse, Hammett, Chnadler, Brautigan… I can still name all them but I can not read long books any more. I can not keep track of so many characters and plot lines. I learned how to re-read by starting with short sentences And I am fine now with magazine articles, newspapers, and some short stories. But I can never go back to enjoying real books. Funny, but my memory for long ago concerts from the 60s and wines enjoyed with my Dad and friends and families from way back in the day up until now was never impacted. So TBI is a very individual event. I am lucky to have been on the SQN mailing list since 1997… The Krankl’s and their extended wine making folks have always treated me wonderfully. I wish them the Very best and will keep them in my prayers. Cheers, Bob

Thanks for sharing that Bob and more so, thanks for serving. Hoping that Manfred recovers fully so he can return to his passion of making wine.

Very good news, indeed!

And, Bob, may you continue to recover. Does taking notes while you read help?

Bob - thank you for your service and for your intimate reply.

Brave narrative Bob, continued better health for you is my wish. I hope Manfred gets well and rides again.

Bob,
Thank you for your service!

Here’s wishing you well, Bob. Thank you for your service.
Glad to hear Manfred is on the mend as well. Hopefully he can get back to doing what he is most passionate about, creating awesome labels and names for his wines.

Bob, what a great note. Hope we can cross path sometime again.

Bob what a great note. Thank you for your service.

I hope he gets well and never rides again. Why take another chance?

hi all, thanks so much for all the kind notes. It is greatly appreciated. And yes, taking notes is a handy device I use on occasion. And I am always keeping track of things on my collection of calendars up by my bed and next to my seat at the kitchen table. But bottom line is that I am so much more able to do things than many veterans and I like to keep my own situation in that perspective. Life is so much enjoyable when we look at what we do have and count our blessings. Being able to enjoy wine and share the company of like minded folks is one of those indeed. Cheers, Bob

Again, keeping Manfred and Elaine and their family in mind…best wishes to them.

Thank you for your service and your sacrifice to our country, Bob.

I am thrilled to hear that Manfred appears to be on the road to full recovery. A lucky man, to be sure
