Madame Bize-Leroy: making wine to a recipe?

Fair enough Eric. I was just comparing to Bordeaux because I know that that is Alex’s area of expertise. Alex I did not mean to suggest that you were criticizing when I said “question“ but rather meant exactly as you said, inquiring. My last thoughts on this are first, that when I think of Bordeaux I am thinking of the entire range. I primarily purchase the type of value châteaux that are frequently discussed on this board, so I’m definitely not dealing in first growths. Second when I question whether Lafite could sell a Fronsac for $100, I’m thinking of something that they would label as Lafite, something of a quality level that they would be willing to put their own name on, much as Leroy does, not some other estate that they happen to own. I’ll stop with the thread drift now.

Have you drunk her “lower level” wines? Her 2006 and 2007 GC Genaivrieres were stellar when I last tried them. 2006 Santenots Du Milieu is also stunning. I think her “lower level” wines are worth the tariff. Caveat: To be sure I don’t buy many, but I sniper a few bottles here and there. I am sitting on a small stash back to 1995.

You mean VR (Vosne-Romanée) Genaivrières ?!

Outstanding Village wine.
BTW: I have no idea why she never released any VR Aux Réas after 1989/90 anymore …

Volnay Santenots is never a “low level” wine … it is a fine Premier Cru ( so let´s say “mid level”) … and usually one of the best wines in her stabel, some GCs included … she owns the vineyard for a long time, much longer than Domaine Leroy rexists …

Gerhard, the quotes are to show that they are very substantial! Not low level at all! But the context was that grand cru and upper Premiers get all of the credit. I was trying to say that the l
QUOTE lower level END QUOTE Leroy wer not lower level at all. And thats why they are so expensive. … And worth it too!

Totally flubbed the other. Genaivrieres is VR fo sho. Stunning Villages if I must say! I added GC late and mentally juxtaposed the wrong village. Thanks
