Lyon Restaurant help

Super, we were there in January and had another knock out meal as well.

how was your experience at Troisgros & Takao Takano? we’re planning a similar trip in a couple months to those spots, wondering how the list is as well

Our experience at Troisgros was excellent. We were there with two other couples, spent two nights at the hotel, and ate at the flagship restaurant both nights. We had the tasting menu the first night & were planning on eating a la carte the second, but were offered the option of another, different tasting menu, which is what we chose. Both meals were outstanding, with some fantastic highs, but a couple of misses as well. The wine list has lots of great options and the prices are what I would characterize as fair, with plenty of reasonably priced (compared to US prices) of great Burgundy (both red and white). It was an expensive weekend, but was a great, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I can’t say enough good things about Takao Takano. Our meal was flawless. The wine list was great (again, no ridiculously priced bargains, but lots of fairly priced wines) and the sommelier is a young, knowledgeable, enthusiastic guy in his 20s who was really fun to talk with. It was easily the best meal of our trip (which included 5 days in Paris). I’m certain that the only reason this doesn’t have 3 Michelin Stars is because the space and the vibe are too casual to be worthy of that 3rd star. Highly recommended.

I was at Takao last Tuesday. Excellent. I was served both monkfish and lobster (had asked for pescatarian). The lobster was a surprise substitution for the St Peter’s fish that was on the longer menu (I asked for pescatarian short with the St Peter substitution). The monkfish and lobster were very, very rare in the center, took some getting used to (even though I love sashimi). I thought it a bit odd to get poor man’s lobster followed by real lobster with such a similar texture.

Almost every place I went to had monkfish as the poissin du jour in Brittany and Lyon. Had it 4 times in 9 days, not completely by choice (the only fish on the menu at times).

The cheese course is part of the meal, and I couldn’t resist, but in hindsight I should have skipped it - too much food.

The next night I went to Le Sommeliere and enjoyed that more - mostly because I’m no longer interested in 3 hour plus meals where you only get a few bites in the first hour. But for a tasting menu, you won’t be disappointed at Takao. Perfect service.

(Le Sommelliere also had monkfish as the special but they also had scallops do I went with that).

I thought 2* was right for the food at Takao.
